I recommend Metarex, been using it for the past 16 years or so with great success...

Metarex has been used on the frets of this old Gibson by a friend of mine...

I use a small rare earth magnet to pick up all the stray pieces. Grabs everything in a 2in radius.

i dont blow the steel wool off the guitar.

i take a few pieces of masking tape and make a square about 6x6. use that to stick up the pieces. works great. THEN pull the masked areas off your guitar.

reason being, i cant stand that shit floating around in the air....it's REALLY bad for your lungs.

well....it looks like im about to change my antiquated ways.

so, is it the polish, or the gorgomyte? is the gorgomyte worth 20$....im thinking that the time, taping and hassle of 0000 steel wool is worth 20$.....i can be pretty frugal, so im sure i can get it to last.

anyone?

Blue Magic. It's like Flitz, only a fraction of the price for a bigger tube. Works great.

I would use Never Dull or any other chrome polish. It works better, lasts longer, and helps keeps your frets in tip top shape. I rarely use steel wool anymore. It's all Blue Magic!

I bought the fret eraser not a fan. I feel like it is actually filing/sanding not polishing i bought the 800 grit, should have got the 1200 grit. I am back to the stew mac fret thingys and their polishing clothes that metarex looks promising.

I use Steel Wool for general cleaning of the frets. I have used a diamond paste (made by Gator) on a dremel for polishing after filing the frets. Be carefull with the dremel tool...you can blacken the fretboard if it's not taped off. I imagine you could do a lot of damage to the freatboard if you let the dremel slip or hit any kind of neck binding. Be careful of the necks you use blue painters tape on. I had an Yngwie strat (maple neck/board) where the clearcoat was coming off with the painters tape. It was a major pain in the ass to fix.

0000 steel wool and lemon oil user here. I don't tape off the finger board but I ball up some steel wool and rub along the board (with the grain) before oiling the fingerboard.

Yeah, you bought the wrong grit, unfortunately.

I just bought the whole kit. Works GREAT after a fret level. Progressively gets to a finer grit. The heavier grit is necessary to get the sanding grooves out after levelling.

I still used 0000 to get a mirror shine as the last step. But the erasers saved a lot of work and hand-fatigue.

Just did a fret polish and bridge polish on my PRS using T-Cut (Automotive cutting compound) and a lot of elbow grease. Had to mask off the board and the area around the trem but the results are great.

I've been using the Gorgomyte and the frets feel great after using it, but I get the sense that I am just rubbing black stuff all over the fretboard. Might not continue using it once my supply is out.

I use 0000 steel wool and blue painters tape.
