MURDERATOR
6505+ combo. Had it running into my Marshall mode 4 cab. Anyway the nut holding the jack came loose, the connectors were jiggly as fuck as well. I’m playing… lose volume and get his. Finally pulled the amp and started troubleshooting. Cleaned jacks. Turned on and everything lights up including power tubes. Take it off standby and get hiss. Plug cable into send and return and the hiss gets a little louder. Turn off and remove power tubes. Turn on and take off standby and…the sound of silence 🤫 fuck. Ot is done right ?

You have the shittiest luck with amps of anyone I’ve ever heard of dude.

Another one? You need to revise them jacks and stuff in all your amps one day

Just got a message from my pv amp guru and he doesn’t think it’s the ot. Thinks it’s something else in the front end. I will defer to him and tube swap pre’s to see if that helps…. I dunno… pencil test first….

You have like three of four threads in the last 3 months about fucked up amps.
I know. Trust me…I know… pv ultra plus… thought I fried my rec but got lucky and it’s good. Now this thanks to a wonky cabinet input. I have been playing since the mid 80’s and honestly I think I replaced a pair of tubes once. That’s it. Don’t recall ever having one go tits up. So I guess I’m overdue….

It can’t be controlled… you have to let the NEO SOUL glow…..
Preach it!

Now it’s just fucking weird. V1 is microphonic as all hell. I rolled five known good preamp tubes. Even swapped power tubes. This is where it gets weird. Stuck the patch cable in the loop again…. Basically with a jack in the return and nothing in the send it’s quiet and works. Just no volume. With it set at what should be ear splitting volume you can easily mumble over it…. Any idea?

That sounds like my Traynor YCV80. One of the channels was much quieter than it should have been. Turns out a component broke off the board, breaking the signal path, so all I was hearing was bleed from the other channel.

What worries me is that it was plugged into the Marshall with the loose connections and loose input. Automatically makes me think under power with no load. Sometimes you can get by with that if you have nothing in the input and it’s not on for very long… that’s not my case….

Should I check the other channel? I just had it on the red channel when I was messing with it…. I have a great tech an hour away but his shop got hit in a freak flood and he’s months behind now on repairs. Poor guy. Said he’s going to be covered up doing free repairs because customers stuff got wet. Not sure what insurance he has but he’s pretty disheartened by it.

Yes I would. Do the same thing as before, plug into the FX return and try it on the other channel. This may help narrow it down.

From wheat I remember, the tubes are in a stupid order on those amps. I’d say the best bet is to take out all of the preamp tubes and add them back in one at a time going form v6 to v1.
Once the hiss comes back you will at least have a better idea of what part of the preamp is the culprit.
