so, ive recently acquired a couple Friedmans and really digging them.

Through a set of weird circumstance, I have only H-type speakers right now (pre-rola g12H's and Creamback H's)...i really like the H's i do have, btw...

BUT i cant help thinking I'd also like the option of having some sort of M-type speaker that has a little more mids to go with the Friedmans, PT100 and other marshall-type amps.

I'd like to get a 4x12 with either:

- all V30's
- g12m/v30 mix (basically, the Friedman 'stock' cab)
- or something else you all think i should consider?

the most amount of gain i generally go for is 80-90's classic metal (maybe a little grunge. Although this is going to be a 4x12, I also want to be able to use the cab at lower volumes at home.

So, any thought on an all v30 cab vs the g12m/v30 mix - are those v30's (either in their own cab or mixed with the greenbacks) just going to sound like crap at lower volumes?

thanks for any thoughts!

What he said. But, make sure you put the Ms on top of the 30s. I also like G12 65s a lot with Marshall style amps. WGS makes a decent version if you don't want to spend on the Heritage series or search for an old cab...ET65.

thanks guys - one other thing i forgot to ask about it...

in additon to v30's sounding ok at lower home volumes, is there any issue with mixing speakers at lower volumes (ie i know a lot of things can tend to get washed out when increasing volume but just wanted to be sure that mixing would still still sound good if not pumping out a lot of volume).

thanks

someone also just suggested a scumback m75/h75 mix or even all bm75's...what do you guys think of that vs the g12/v30 for medium to high gain?

i do want to make sure there is good mids and at least some bottom that is pretty tight

I would start by copying the Freidman formula. Adjust from there.

For a couple years I had the older blue frame 'Scumbag' H75/M75 mix in my Soldano 4x12. Sounded really good, but just didn't have the punch I was looking for. Played it back and forth against a Bogner Uberkab and the Uber blew it away in terms of punch factor and filling the room. Wish I would have kept a pair and used V30s with either the H75 or M75 speakers to be honest.

hmmm, the m75/v30 mix might be nice on paper....
