Kind of a strange juxtaposition... But the new firmware release for the Axe-II definitely delivers, and I've been STUCK on the HBE amp > simple delay > 4x12 loaded with low watt vintage cones. Daaaaaaaaaaayuuuuuuum, is this what the HAIRY BROWN EYE sounds like?? Cuz if so - dammit - ya, this is on my growing GAS list like none other.

I actually scouted for this thread Reza as I saw a day or two ago and didn't think much of it. Just thought, "aw, that's just Reza getting older"  But seriously, I'm throwing down hard with the patch, and I'd imagine the real deal is even better. Mark, Rob - I may have to give you a call to "discuss".

Hell yeah!!!
Mojo
The Marsha models (BE & HBE) in the Axe Ultra are what ultimately led me to try out the real thing. I was using those models for almost all of my dirty tones, so when a trade offer presented itself, I jumped. One of the best gear-related decisions that I've ever made. IMO, its the best of the best of hot-rodded Marshall tone machines and is extremely versatile as well...I use it for both classic hard rock/metal gigs and blues/funk and it excels at all of them. I was actually shocked by how nice the full clean sounds...like a fat Twin with even more clean headroom. I've only ever heard one other EL34 powered amp with more sparkle and chime than the Marsha. Very simple and straightforward yet more flexible IMO than most of the heavily knobbed, multichannel wunder amps that I've owned or auditioned.

Rupe, nice followup, thanks for that.

Ya, well, sometimes - many times in fact - less is more, right? Fewer options means getting to know the new options very well, and making it work.

So, what, you traded the Axe-II for a Marsha??

I traded an Ultra, an FBT Verve 12ma, and a midi interface for the Marsha. I really liked the Ultra but I couldn't get along with it live as I couldn't tweak on the fly to adjust what I was hearing in the room. I also found myself spending far too much time tweaking patches...and finding that I typically liked things the best where I started out :D

The Axe II addressed my live use issues but I'm digging real amps again so much that I don't have much desire to go digital again at this point (although I'd like to try the Kemper).
