I doubt that is boosted, sounds like
The JJ straight up to me..

Boosted with Mesa Flux, set to clean boost. Boost haters begin assault :D

Not an Ibanez, Maxon OD808 is close - I still dig the Flux with it. I run the gain around 2:00 or less if boosting. It loves it, sustain is super liquid - and the amp is fairly quiet - even at higher gain settings.

Is the Mesa Flux your favorite boost pedal? I haven't tried one. The OD808 is pretty killer.

I really dig what the Mesa Flux does, active EQ lets you fine tune the bass and treble, with the amps I have it works exceptionally well (triple recto and JJ especially). My MCII like the Bogner Wessex - it's super dynamic (the Wizard) so that pedal allows you to lighten up your touch and the amp cleans up, on the lead and rhythm channels. The Flux is probably my favorite for heavy playing though, chugga chugga type palm mute riffs.

I've tried boosting with maxon and tube screamer, for me it just doesn't need it but just depends on what someone is going for...

Yeah - JJ doesn't "need" a boost to sound good, but I think it feels different under the fingers.

Love to know how it responds to my "secret weapon" stomp.

CAL Mk.4:23Pro :D

Probably would work great, I tried the Suhr Koko, was good. The clean channel loves the Koko mid boost

the shocker to me has been just how good the BE mode is on the JJ - i thought i would stay in JBE land all the time but i actually think i like the JJ's BE better than the BE-100...im starting to think the latter is a little too 'soft' or filtered for me. the JJ has the grind/grit and is a little more immediate to me, which is the natural sounds i think of when thinking about Friedman levels of gain...

only thing is the BE-100 really is awesome for 80's hair metal, in terms of that polish...the gain character of the JJ is actually better for this but its voicing can be a little more....menacing than 80's hair metal lol

I stay in BE mode all the time, just max out the gain an go. I may end up backing that down to 9 eventually but also I turn the bass to about 8. JBE really cool too, to me it is much more compressed sound with a rounder sound if that makes sense. JBE is heavier sounding as you all know. The two channels for me require completely different settings. Try turning the mids to max on JBE. Because of this I don't really get the need dual master volumes for JBE/BE. They are completely different beasts. I can see myself blending a mix of the two recorded with the BE being prominent in the mix.

I like the JJ. I've only seen clips ( Andy Wood ) but I think it sounds good. More sinister sounding than the BE or Steve Stevens.
Love that tele too. What's the body made of?

Hi all, new member to RT, I've been on the fence for sometime now as to which Friedman to get, had it down to BE-100 or the JJ. Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to play either, just going on clips & reviews. At first I was set on the BE since my style of playing ranges from srv/hendrix type blues to classic rock/metal to eric johnson, moore Etc. Be-100 made sense since I use strats as well as LP's, however, Im really liking the tones I hear from the JJ and Im thinking it will be just as versatile as the BE-100, not into drop D detuned stuff, any thoughts?

I have played both.. The be is absolutely more versatile, but the JJ will enter an aggression territory that the be will not. The JJ is my preference, it is still versatile, just not as the BE.

Just to clarify the BE does have tons of gain, and sounds incredible. It is just voiced differently in the low-low mids than the JJ. A touch more gain on the JJ.
