So I haven't scoured through the Friedman section of RT in a while and I know this has probably been beaten to death but here are my thoughts.

To give you guys a better idea of the sounds I'm getting, here's my detailed setup.

Gibson Les Paul: WCR Godwood (B) Sheptone Blue Sky (N) 3-Way DpDt switch for series/coil/parallel.
Mogami Gold Series Cables.
1971 Friedman KS Modded Plexi: BE/HBE/C45/SAT/Loop/Depth/1-2 Power/EL34 (JJ)
1992 Marshall AX Cabinet: 2 Scumback BM75's (65W-M Cones). Wired in S/P at 8 ohms. Bottom two holes of the cabinet are sealed with 3/4" thick birch cut outs.
T.C Electronics G-Major
Korg Pitchblack

BE: Super aggressive; mid heavy channel. Tons of gain and a multitude of tones to be had here just by messing with different volume/tone combinations on the guitar. I can easily dime the bass and gain and the channel never bottoms out or becomes muddled. It's also super articulate and defined with amazing note separation and clarity. Massive low end, ripping mids and smooth highs are to be found in this channel as well. Has Dave's awesome twist while retaining all of the Plexi characteristics that I love too. Brown tones can also be had provided that the controls are dialed in properly. I know these are short and sweet sentences but this amp is so perfect in my opinion.

Disclaimer: You (and myself) will never sound like EVH. Get over it. It's a point of reference; not a mantra.

HBE: Way more aggressive. I know this simplistic but never before have I played an amp that can have the bass dimed without becoming muddled. Dave has found the way of coaxing an amazingly tight low end out of each channel (this one in particular) that adds just enough low mids to make the amp cut. This channel to me sounds a little darker (to my liking) and seems to have added compression to give notes the right cut in a solo mix. Easily becoming my favorite as it sounds like the BE channel with an extremely transparent O.D in front of it.

C45: I like this with the BE as it adds a little more compression and low end. The highs seem to soften a bit while having the benefit of more punch in the upper register. Makes a dark guitar really shine and cut.

SAT: Nice feature to have. 80's tones in spades. I've found that with my combination of speakers and pickups that when engaged, I need to dial back on the treble and presence to get something a little smoother out of the amp.

Half Power: Self explanatory.

Loop: Extremely transparant without any coloration at all. I've run both line level and instrument level pedals/rack units through it and it behaves beautifully.

Overall Impression: This is my dream amp. I waited two years before pulling the trigger and although it took a great while to get back to me, I couldn't be happier. It's been a month since I've had it and I can't even count how many hours I have logged on it. Dave's work on my amp puts a constant smile on my face every time I plug into it. The Master Volume is extremely useful and works like a volume control ought to.

Thanks again Dave for giving me an amazing product and for being so helpful through calls/e-mails and to Mark for being extremely informative and approachable whenever I called.

Thanks man!

I would love to play the SS100 some day. It looks/sounds killer. Running anything fun into it.

Technically, your amp is a 1971 Superlead...not a plexi, correct ? Didn't plexi panels stop in 68 or 69 ?

Yeah. I was just generalizing. It has original iron at least!

Very cool man! We have almost the same setup. I have a modded Mojave Peacemaker with Brown Eye, Custom 45, and sat Switch. Couldn't do the Hairy Brown Eye due to how the board was designed. I also have a 4x12 with 3 of the Scumback BB75s... 65watters, and a Custom WCR Les Paul with the Godwood in the bridge. Its an amazing setup for sure!

Damn that is close!

You just have good taste

HBE set right nails that WACF/Fair Warning tone.

Great review

Can you tell me about the depth control?

I agree that these can do a great fair warning tone. Not too sure about WACF though.

Just played for 2 hours.

HBE is the winner for me.

So many options with my KS JMP, the first year i mostly played the HBE, but now prefer the Brown Eye with either a boost or SAT.

Cool! So can the Brown Eye. I have a Frankenstrat that I built with the MotorCity 2nd Degree Blackbelt. That nails EVH Fair Warning for me... and Women and Children First tone. However; Dave tweaked a Blankenship VariPlex with one of his transformers and the correct tubes, and that NAIL early VH. The Brown Eye gets close, but the 50watt Plexi nails it.

Dave soldered it in so it's hardwired into the circuit. I don't want too much low end but he said that it adds a really rich amount of tight low end.

I made a clip a while back of BE/HBE its on YT land. I'll let others be the judge. I was just playing Dirty Movies the other day and it has that grind going on big time.

Talked to my girlfriend (parents are musicians) and she said this:

Guys fail to notice all of the post production that goes on with VH and that he's always playing with a live band!

That's what most EVH tone chasers miss. Do I chase it: hell yeah! Do I know I'll never sound like him: yes!

I love the BE mode with C45 but since I do not have a boost/OD as of now, it's HBE with the gain at 7 for me. Looking into a 6/10 Band EQ and a Koko Boost in the future.

Loving your newer clips man. So nasty and tight.

It's funny you bring that up.

I want to get a 2nd Degree BB badly. Right now I'm using a WCR Godwood (B) and although I love it, I've always been intrigued by the BB.

I originally asked Dave to put a Variac in where my polarity switch is but I didn't have the necessary tap needed for the mod. I want to send the amp back in for the following:

Fat/Variac/VH/BE-HBE Switch

Got any pics of that guitar?

Here it is:

It's a little sloppy as I wasn't used to playing with such a high volume for almost a year. I feel more refined and better about my playing through the amp now.

I want to make some new clips but I don't know if I should do covers etc. I wish I knew how to do a proper video set up like Samtheman or Mark D.

Read this last night ..... good review.

Thanks man! It's hard to be unbiased when I have no others amps to compare my Friedman to.
