Friedman preamp?

When the amp returns, I will post pics in another thread. I don't wanna hijack this one. I recently sent the amp away to have front and back plate put on it. If you wanna see a pic without the front & back plates, please send me a PM with your email.

Got a few requests for pics, so I will post the ones I have. On the front left is the power switch. Next to that is full power/tweed power, complements of the Mesa power transformer (from a dual rectifier, I believe). The output tranny is a 50 watt replacement for the JCM 800 and the choke is a Marshall replacement too. I believe the OT & choke are Classictones, but I'm not 100%. The empty hole is where the negative feedback pot is being installed. Then you have resonance, presence, and gain controls on the front. The dude who built the amp did not have time to finish it, so I have recently sent it to a new builder, who is gonna replace the knobs with chickenhead knobs, install a negative feedback pot in the empty hole next to the full/tweed power switch, put on front & back plates, and install sides & a top to protect everything. On the back you see the pentode/triode switch, an input jack, 8 ohm and 4 ohm speaker outs, and bias test points with adjusters.

Yes, I like good gear. Yes, I'd love a Friedman preamp!

A Friedman preamp would be great.
3 full channels channels/19"/2 RU

1: Full Clean
2: BE w. C45 switch
3. HBE with JBE/Sat
switchable FX loop
remote switching: Channel 1-3, FX, I doubt we need MIDI unless Dave has this at hand

Personally I do not need a compensated out but proper interfacing to power amps, two outputs

Wonderful idea, would love a 3 channel Friedman preamp.

I have a BE-100 but would love a preamp to use with my Torpedo Live for home use.

Happy Holidays all!

Perfect !

i dont get the effect loop thing, preamps sounds better without it

As for the FX loop: It needs to sound transparent of course, but I am sure, Dave's loop does.
But having a switchable loop gives you the option to have a nice FX enabled with a certain channel. I like that idea with every amp.

I agree with JMP2203 that the tone is better without an effects loop. I found that out when I owned a Mesa Roadster.

That being said, I need delay; so an effects loop is necessary.

loops in preamps are not necesary IMO

Egnater M4, CAE 3+ and Soldanos are clear examples

I disagree.
The VHT GP3, Triaxis and several others are good examples.
What do you do, if you want a Delay on your clean channel but not on your lead? You will need to keep the FX in the signal chain.
You need to do additional switching, may end up having digital conversion in the signal chain and may experience latency while switching ...
I wouldn't worry about signal degradation if you can simply bypass the FX loop.

I agree to keep it simple, but I do not see why a switchable loop shouldn't be a good idea.

Those were designed about 22 years ago, when there was a lot
of bad gear around. without MIDI etc... so that made sense.

Loopersystems were a lot more expensive those days,
today you can buy a looper "on the cheap" (~200$)

Agree. You can buy a looper but this will still make the setup more complicated, more cables, MIDI etc.
I would certainly prefer a simple transparent send/return that is bypass switchable. Could be an option.

Badcat did one for me( its serial # 1) and hit it out of the park with what it can do.Light years of versitality beyond a typical amp head.( and I love amp heads). My 2 coins in features for a friedman pre?:3-4 space,An even more featured clean ch,(with switchable clean option/functions), and the obvious other channels would be the various SS/Cantrell/ BE100 pre's,( all with midi switchable option/ functions change in each channel), 2 outs for sure,in/out on front and back, midi & analog switching, and perhaps this would be a chance for Dave to try an even newer tone he's been chasing or looking for!..

Just get an Egnater M4 and have Dave make you some of these:
