If they were about the same price, which would have the more fun playing, fat singing and harmonic lead tone?

You m debating on which I may want to get and I cannot decide. I don’t like bright amps, and Inhear the Friedman is fat and badass, but I e always heard the Hot Rod/SLO thing is amazing. I had a clone SLO onetime, and while it was not harsh, it has a sizzle factor that would not go away. I don’t want that.

If you don't want the sizzle don't get a HR.

The HR 100/50 are cool amps. But they are no SLO. Not on any level. Neither is any SLOclone. Unless they had the DeYoung transformers, no cigar.
I had an HR 100+..it was a nice amp. Then I got an SLO. Game over.

Yea, I honestly assumed the SLO clone was more like the HR due to the transformers. There was an aggression I couldn’t dial out, I don’t typically go for aggressive amps or amps on the bright side.

That’s what I feel will happen, I think you’re right! It’s just so confusing, some people say it’s bright, other say keep the EQ low and it’s not at all...I’m the guy who finds most amps bright regardless.

I've had an SLO and an SL-60 (essentially a HR-50 built in Japan). I thought they sounded a lot a like.

The Soldano sound isn't "fizzy" to me. It's pretty thick IMHO but to me it's what I'd call "brown." There's a bit of hair or blur to everything which I guess some people call fizz? They can be pretty dark if you dial down the treble and mids. But that sort of furriness is always there over every note.

The notes really sing and bloom, but the initial attack is soft to me.

Ok, so there’s a lot of lingo that I feel I relate to here, tell me if I on the same page. Fizz, to me is that sizzle or grating treble on top that is either harsh or that sizzle in the treble. I absolutely hate that.

When you says there’s hair or blur to everything, I think...like notes kind of smear together, or are everything blends into the next note. I feel Bogners have this, not sontight that it’s dry, but instead just blurry enough to feel bouncy. I also like a softer attack.

Your description reminds me of a cornford! They can be bright, but with the controls dialed back it can be brown and darker, but kind of wooly in the bass, which makes the notes and over feel forgiving and fun!

Yeah, "smear" might be a good word for what I hear.

To me, the Soldano is not a "tight" amp; it takes too long for the note to bloom or develop. I love the sound, but for example it did not track my 8-string, low F# well at all. It's attack and reaction was too soft and slow. Everything blurred together. But I think that same quality is what people like about it for leads.

It's absolutely magnificent for leads, and I think if I tuned no lower than low B I'd probably still at least have a Hot Rod.

Yea, I like a softer kinda blurred thing, makes for a fun playing amp to me! I can use volume know Ron a pedal if I need an alternate.

I have a SS and love it. Its been a long time since I owned a hot rod. The clean channel on the SS is great and the gain channel cranks.

Yea, I think I may trade my Ecstasy for one. They sound Killer! They sound very big and warm in the gain. All the videos are a good midrange and fatness without the harsh/fizzy/bright high end. Does that sound close?

You have already had an SLO clone and didn't dig it, so I would go with the Friedman SS.

One person's sizzle or fizz is another persons Bite or Cut. Is the SLO clone was too sizzly or Fizzy, I don't think an HR or an actual SLO is going to be THAT much different.

True. Smart.

Sounds like I need to take the majority advice and get the SS!
