Does anyone have an recommendations? My current TS808 basically sucks all the tone out of my JMP with it's very odd EQ curve.

Want to give my YJM pickups some boost before it hits the amp but don't want it to change the tone.

Well, that´s the thing, really, a perfectly flat/linear boost might not be what you´re looking for either, since you probably don´t want a lot of extra bass hitting the preamp stages. A pedal that works very well with singlecoils without venturing out into Tubescreamer territory is the Xotic RC. Good tonal shaping, not a lot of compression and grit.

I was having a look at FET booster http://www.flynnamps.co.uk/pedals/ I'm friends with the guy who builds them. What would be the advantage of EQ? I'm a little new to the idea of EQ pedals

The main reason people like different OD/boost pedals is mostly down to their frequency responses. If you know what you are doing you can adjust an EQ pedal very close to your liking, than stuck with a limited range with a typical OD/boost pedal.

And an EQ pedal usually won't clip unless you are overloading the input.

Exactly. I've tried a Boss, MXR, and Danelectro fish n chips....the most subtle and transparent of those three is the cheap Danelectro. In my experience. It might be exactly what you are looking for, and is inexpensive as well.

Xotic RC Booster. I tried several, including stock boss eq and modded. RC was the most transparent. Just makes your tone bigger.

tc booster line driver

Yep, The best I've ever experienced… Although they are getting very difficult to find,
And the prices are starting to climb real high. I have two of these from the mid-80s
and I would never sell either!

empress para eq with boost. shape the boost however you like.

EP Pre or the DOD YJM Pre maybe?

I was looking at the YJM isn't it also using diod clipping? I want to get away from any EQ curve that "overdrive" pedals seem to create.

I don't want to shape the tone so an EQ might add another level of complexity when I just want a clean transparent boost to "hot" up my single coil guitars. Preferably thickening things up without adding any distortion

I agree with you. Great little pedal at 1/3 the price. More sturdy than people give them credit for as well. Pretty damn quiet too. Just as quiet as the MXR 10 band :dunno:

Just buy a koko boost! You get two options with a 3 way voicing switch and mid q. It's a simplified eq pedal that's is really low noise plus buffer. Also has a clean boost on the green side.

So what would be the process of getting a clean boost using an EQ?

The one thing I wanted is essentially a mostfet style booster with transparent EQ. Would using an EQ basically mean I was creating my own EQ curve? That's exactly the opposite of what I want haha.

This is what I've been looking at, a local builder http://www.flynnamps.co.uk/pedals/fet-booster/

I find an EQ is great at slightly boosting without killing the low end, if you boost a few frequencies (mids and high mids, for example). So, not a clean boost. Otherwise, a really good clean boost pedal would be better if you just want the same tone only louder.
