I am designing a new pedal board and I wanted some opinions on order of FX in front of the amp & in the loop. I may add a Keeley looper for the fx in front of the amp but I use a Line 6 Relay 90 wireless so my signal stays pretty good since it is buffered output. I will have the following in front:

1.compressor (wampler)
2.vibe (Pickle vibe)
3.clean boost (Exotic EP Boost)
4.Wah (Ernie Ball)
5.Phaser (EVH 90)
6.Flange (MXR Micro)
7.Noise Reduction (G String-guitar section)

In the loop I will have the following:

1.Verb (Strymon Blue Sky)
2.Delay (Strymon Brigidier)
3.Chorus (Red Witch Empress or Retrosonic)
4.Volume Pedal (Ernie Ball Jr 25k- will come before verb and delays)
5.EQ (Source Audio programable EQ)
6.Noise Reduction (G String- loop section)
7.Solo Boost (Suhr Isoboost)

Mostly interested in opinion for in front of the amp and opinions on verb before delay or after. Thanks

I'd go as follows...

>Wah
>Comp

>Vibe
>Phase
>Flange
(these 3 can be in any order based on your taste if you use them together. If not, it doesn't really matter)
*At least in my setup, I liked my modulation stuff before dirt/boost.

>EP Booster

>G-String

RE: loop. I like Delay before Reverb

Have fun and post some pics when you're done!

Thanks, appreciate your opinion on this. This is all going to fit (I hope) on my new Pedaltrain 3 board so it will have everything I need but be reasonably compact. Most of it is on my current PT2 board now but ran out of room for some of the phase/flange boost stuff I want to add.

Any other opinions are welcome please, I don't want to have to wire this thing up twice lol!!

Almost exactly what I was going to say, except I'd go with the Compressor first in line. It seems to react to the direct signal from the guitar the best for me.

Pedal order is subjective of course, but I like:
any Germanium transistor fuzz/distortion pedals first as they need to be first in line to operate correctly (can't be after buffers, wahs, etc or they'll sound like shit

If no old school fuzz, then:
Comp
wah
modulation
(i like stuff like chorus, phaser, flange, vibe, etc before gain so my tone doesn't turn into a swirly mess)
low gain dirt
high gain dirt
clean boost

volume pedal (towards the end of signal chain so volume can "swell" at full gain. So basically you're raising and lowering the level of all of the effects before it, instead of reducing output to those pedals like your guitar's volume knob would do. It comes before delays and verb so delay/verb trails won't cut off when you fade the volume out)
Tremolo
delay
reverb

I don't use a noise gate but I'd probably put it towards the end of the chain. In the loop I'd go delays then verbs. I don't like modulation fx in the loop at all except sometimes chorus but mostly dig it before any gain source.

Of course, there are exceptions: Sometimes I'll put just one dirt pedal, like a big muff before a phaser or vibe to intentionally get that overly effected swirly messy sound. At times I've put a distortion or overdrive before a wah or clean boost also. When you put the wah after your gain souce, you're filtering the distortion/harmonics and you get a very exaggerated wah sound. Sounds cool for some stuff. And when you run a high gain pedal into a clean boost, you get that compressed throaty tone that sounds killer with a strat and some delay. Very Gilmour-esque.
