Seems pretty amazing, for recording. Can't understand the last part. If you have to run the D120 head to a load, what would be the practical use of adding the GPDI/IR? Using the pitbull channel or clean channel seems to be the only benefit to me, is that accurate or what am I missing?

This looks awesome, and my big question is does the 1W power section create convincing tones at medium volumes? Like he said it obviously won't keep up with a drummer, but at lower volumes is it convincing or will you still need to run it through a big boy power section? I've read reviews of the original GP/DI not sounding great in this manner, but always room for improvement.

And yeah, the benefit of the external amp switch/loop is that you can incorporate it into the effects loop of another head to add it as a dedicated channel (just like the Synergy stuff). Just one of the many features.

For sure a good question, id want to use it as a practice amp too as well. Sounds great in the recording, I guess it just depends on how well the master volume works.

I use a boss katana, 1w doesn't seem like much but probably doable.

I had a 1 watt Bumbox, through a 4x12 it was too loud alone.

The way power versus volume works is, 10x the power doubles the volume. That also works in reverse as well.

A 10 watt amp is half as loud as a 100 watt. A 1 watt is half as loud as a 10 watt. So in practical terms, 1 watt produces about 25-33% of the volume of a 100 watt amp, all other items being equal.

Yes but it's not just about volume. Small power sections can sound boxy and thin compared to larger power sections at the same volume.

I bet this gets plenty loud, but again the question is will it sound convincing enough to replace a larger power section at practice volumes.

Looks really interesting, I'd like to see a more thorough demo on the high gain tones available. I love Michael's demos, but he's primarily a clean/mid gain guy. This could be an incredible tool for home studios.

His last tour of the shop was super small! This is much nicer.

He dials in a lot of amps into muscle territory like the Friedman stuff, Blackcat Stuff, Fryette, Soldano, Bogner, 5150, Synergy etc.. unless you consider that "mid" gain?

I liked his video, the only one so far that really gives you a walk through of everything this unit does. With all that, it does seem like a very useful tool. Would have been cool if it could take a monster amp and load it down so that you could use say a 100 watter with the 1 watt power amp but maybe that's being greedy :D

I'm probably thinking much higher gain than you are, but yeah I generally like his demos. I was also hoping there would be a load box type of function with it.

I would have loved to see him expand this into the Power Station chassis size and incorporate a reactive load. Then it would have been perfect.

In that larger chassis size you also might have been able to get a 5w power amp in there to give you a little more headroom.

I don’t see the point of having a reactive load in this. Seems like whenever something is popular or hot people want it in everything, no matter the device. It’s meant to be a desktop recording solution as it’s own amp with the huge bonus of being able to be extra channels for another amp with a loop and provide re-amping on top of that. I think it’s pretty great as is. The only sound on it I didn’t like per Nielsen’s demo was the clean. But once it was hitting the gas a little, it came alive. Would be interesting to mess around with it and see what could be dialed in for the clean sound.

It does have a built in reactive load for the internal 1 watt power amp, just like the old GPDI.

Unless what people are talking about is a load to plug other amps into? That would probably nearly double the price and size, there are seperate boxes already for that.

Exactly..I'm talking plug your big daddy 100 watter right into this little bastard and it gives me the ability to run my 100 watter full pin into a 1 watt output. All that goodness at lower volumes for mic'ing. booyah! Give it to me. Totally unreasonable as a design request.

Above I was talking about a reactive load you could plug an amp into. That's also why I said maybe they would have had to increase the chassis size.

But, upon thinking about this further, you could run the 1w amp or direct out into your Fryette Power Station and basically have a 100w Deliverance/Pitbull (admittedly with reduced features). Pretty cool.

Its pretty cool... but I kinda wish Fryette would just spit out an Ultralead 2 already...

You might not like how that sounds, the 1 watt power amp has very little clean headroom and given how small it is (small transformer), it doesn’t have much depth or presence to it.

I usually use my original GPDI line out into my Fryette 2/50/2 power amp, sounds significantly bigger and deeper, better in every way, really. Plugging it direct into a cab is fine for low gain tones if you want something middy and crunchy, but doesn’t compare to using the big power amp for anything even somewhat high gain.

Fryette do make the power load, which is just the powerstations load only (as far as I know), if you wanted to persue this you could run your big amp into it (or any load such as the Suhr RL) into the GPDI-ir FX return.

I really love that someone of Fryette's caliber is working on this type of gear for people. I also dont really think everything has to be all in one.

I dont care about reactive loads as much. But when you have a line out on something, it really gives you options
