I've been reading this forum about the Sig x to help decide if I should buy one.
So I did!!!
I've also read a million posts about what cabs and or speakers that best suite it.
Now here's a question I haven't ran across and a decision I'm trying to make.
I've ran across a lot of used FB 412 VHTand FRYETTE cabs. Not a single 212.
Looking for D212 and looks like ill have to buy one new.In the mean time I'm debating whether
To buy a used. VHT 112 p100e (which I found) or try some 212 cab maybe eminence loaded.
What to use till i can afford D212? I've heard lots of opinions on speakers maybe a general consensus.
Will a single p100 sound better than an off the wall 212?
Thanks
Great Forum

Welcome to the forum .... :)

Why not buy a 4x12 ?
I have never played on that 1x12 and have no idea ....

Well...its big!
trying to keep rig manageable really.plus I really would
Like the D cab I believe. Not that I'd turn down a free FB OR D
412 ; D
I'm guessing not many have played that VHT 112
I assume its just a 100 watt version of the p50
The cab could make a big difference.not much room in there.

I like the D cab better myself.
I believe the 1x12 cab you are looking at was made for the Memphis amp.... not sure about it being like the P50.

I very much understand the size thing .... 4x12's are hard to move around by myself. If you look at the D 2x12 it is oversized & not a lot smaller than the 4x12. The size is on the Fryette site....

Actual Dimensions: 29.75 X 29.5 X 14 (75.5 X 75 X 35.5)
Actual Weight: 87 (39.5)

&

Actual Dimensions: 29.75 X 23.5 X 12 (75.5 X 59.7 X 30.5)
Actual Weight: 58 (26)

Thanks didn't realize the 212 was that big.
Was really close to picking up a Memphis.I played one some years ago
and remembered the sound very well.sounded great.I was actually just testing guitars out
But was like wow what a great amp.

Anyone tried the Splawn cabinet with the Sig? Those SmallBlock speakers
are 50 watt Eminence. Wonder if they are comparable or sound good
with Fryette.

I sent you a PM with some info ....

If you can I would try out your amp with your guitars & a few cabs to see what fits your taste & needs best. It is easy to find people that like & dislike all the speakers. It is also important to remember the cab is just as important as the speaker.

I own a D412 loaded with P50E cones.

It is very, very good

You should keep an eye out for a Fatbottom 2x12 with P50Es. I have 2 and they're not very tall, but they are full depth and have convenient recessed side handles.

not to make it more confusing, but Steve has some interesting things to say about speakers with VHTs/Fryettes here: http://www.fryette-users.com/forums/sho ... s-better...

the way i read it, he had every intention of making the Mesa OEM V30's standard issue in VHT cabs, and went to Eminence only when Celestion reneged. to me, that's a pretty strong vote of confidence for Mesa V30's with VHT/Fryette. he does issue the caveat that he doesn't think they sound good in Mesa cabs, which could just be a smart business tactic to keep people from going, "oh, well, why don't I just buy a Mesa cab?"

I think he builds his cabs to voice them the way he wants them to sound. He does point out in that thread the cab is very important. In my experience Steve calls it like he sees it / regardless of who the builder is. .... Personally I am not a big fan of the DR cab. I like the other smaller Mesa 4x12 better and I still own a Mesa - DR Tremoverb, Mark IV as well as a Fryette Sig X & Deliverance 120. I also own all 3 versions of the 16 ohm V30's all made before the move to China. I also feel the Mesa version is the best in my ears.
:) It is also my understanding Randy & Steve have been friends a long time ...

Sweet rig

I just put money on a Port City 212 with G12 65 on a great deal . Think this will sound good with the Sig? G12 65 are supposed to be super Greenbacks I believe which in theory should go nice.however a guy has a 212 Forte cab with a scumback m75 and some kind of g12.now I'm not sure which would work better!I've seen one d212 for sale these 2 otheer cabs are priced reaaaally good though.I wish I could try em all.no where around here has decent stuff since
G.C. ran all the good places outta town : (
Btw I played a used sig through a 412 mesa with v30's and sounded bad.although that sig x had been through hell and probably ly needed tubes and a bias adjust .thanks for the food for thought though guys!

A friend of mine was using his Sig X with the 65 .... He liked it. I saw him use it at a gig & thought it sounded good.

Cab construction and design does play a big part. The VHT cabs sound so good largely in part to their R&D. Likely whether loaded with P50's or V30's.
When I mentioned in that VHT thread that I prefered the 70 watt Mesa V30's, it was true, but still maybe a somewhat skewed view.
Since;
I have never heard those speakers in any other cab.
I have also seriously punished my Mesa Trad 4x12 over the last 7 years with immense volume.

I know that I do hear a difference in the Mesa version, and my best judgement tells me it is in fact the speaker itself, since I like to think I have enough experience with the regular/standard issue V30's to compare,

Ill sell you a P50 loaded cab or just the P50's if interested.

Sig:X sounds great through Emi Pitbull P50E's, Emi Legend V128s, and Celestion Vintage 30's for sure. Best match I've found though is actually an old Electro-Harmonix 4x12 loaded with custom OEM Emi speakers. Just wonderful!

One of my best friends owns the Sig:X and I've been a Deliverance owner for many years, so I have quite a bit of experience with them.

That said, if that Pitbull P100E loaded 1x12 is being sold for a fair price definitely snatch that up. They are not easy to come by! I would LOVE a quad of P100's

Ahhh! Ill take one of each!?
Anybody tried Forte cabs? This is a vertical cab though.
Could be a pain. Bet it sounds good though.
Here's my rundown

Used vht D212 $560 p50's
Barely used Forte 212. M75 scumback - g12h I think. $450
Used Port City. 212. New celestion g12 65 $399. (Steal: the speakers alone cost that much)
Apologies if I'm not supposed to post prices etc.
I think that p100 vht 112 is about $250

You can post numbers on here .... it really comes down to taste & needs.
I use a full stack with most of my amps & prefer than side by side....

Slant - H30 top / V30 bottom
Straight - Greenback top / V30 bottom

Last time I counted I have over 40 guitar speakers here .... these are the ones I use 90% of the time.
