I know the feeling

I know the feeling very, very well. Even when I try out an amp that is quite good, as soon as I try to compare it to my dino, any comparison is laughable.

I've had this experience with a couple of Friedman's and ENGLs.

Jack Frost is a killer musician, but the mantis I tried was very loose and just didn't have "it."

Maybe it's much better with a boost?

Jack Frost isn't a "killer musician". He's a rich kid who spent his family's money to be a pretend rock star. Andy Fuchs had no idea who he was when he called and asked about an amp endorsement, just assumed he was famous. No clue what circuit the frost/mantis is based on, but Fuch's other amps are really good.

i’ve owned the ods100, and played the triple overdrive supreme, odsII, and blackjack 21 mk II combo

heard the frost/mantis in person but not my cup of tea

in my friend’s multi amp rig i’m suggesting he use the odsII for a round fat fusiony lead tone and alternative darker fatter fendery clean tone.

i got a decent ej lead tone out of his wdw rack rack full of effects and a effectrode comp and duallist od in front:




the tripledrive had a harder edge than odsII and i preferred it to mantis for heavier tones

the ods100 i had was a robben ford machine and did that specific sound amazingly well but i never bonded with it live because i’m not robben ford and the amp sorta steered me that way. it could get nice cleans and gainy leads but to me the two rock onyx and carol ann OD2r i had were better for those tones. however the odsII is a big improvement over the original.

the blackjack 21 II is killer for a fender blackface clean and srv blues and probably the one i connected with quickest
