So it's ok when my drummer cancels practice because he's "too tired", but when I have something legitimately come up, now he has to get all flustered? WTF?

I thought it was only my drummer! We just kicked out are singer and we havent been really motivated to practice so last week and this week he cancels practice " We think ok he probably has work" Nope just turn out he wasnt in the mood and wanted a day off FUCK THAT.
Drummers are just as much divas as singers.

We had a drummer completely blow off a gig a while back. He was a recovering coke addict and fell of the wagon earlier that evening

Some dude in the audience ran home and grabbed his kit and sat in with us for the night. It was strange as hell not knowing what to expect (he assured us he could pull it off ), but he actually did a pretty good job. He had the strangest kit that I've ever seen...the toms all looked like the bell end of a sousaphone.

Oh Christ, drummers...don't get me started. Drummers ruined 5 years of my life! I grew up jamming with this drummer all through high school who was just excellent. Then I went to music school in Minneapolis and he moved there from our hometown in Michigan to start an original metal band. We won a battle of the bands and won studio time and were doing well for ourselves.

Then his parents get a divorce and it totally changes him. He quits the band and now he plays in a funk/bluegrass/jam band called Down Lo. They're doing well and touring and playing shows with Phish and Wyclef and shit. But I could never replace him. I tried about 50 or so drummers over the following years and could never get back what we had.
We were supposed to play at 93x-fest on the main stage when he quit. Then I lost my singer who was insanely good. That's my sob story

A good reliable drummer with skills is hard to find. Man, I have many times over many of the drummers I've played with. I just dont know what it is with guys who play drums.

i have no hope in drummers, singers or bass players anymore. why you ask ??? ...

the tale of my last band...

we went through 7 (yes 7) singers and when it all fell apart in the end we still didn't have a solid singer.
the bass player was always trying to hook up with the other guitarists fiance so we had to can him before he was killed by the other guitarist and we went down to one guitar and had the other guitarist take over on bass (which truth be told he was better at anyway).
then the drummer got a "real" job and could no longer spend time playing in a band.



and that was the end of that and i'm still bitter about it.

so it could be worse.

no no no...sorry for the confusion. we gave him the boot BEFORE it got to the point of the other guitarist trying to kill him (and not an actual killing, i was using the term "kill" as an over exaggerated beating not actual killing). so there was no killing or beating, he was kicked out before it could happen is what i meant by that.

I've given up on playing with drummers. All of them except one would complain about my playing or what I wrote (I assure you I'm not the best, but definitely not the worst). My favorite comment was "Uh, can you play that faster?" Pardon me if I can't play 500bpm to the most generic blast beats ever.
