Oh man, whats that Arcane Analog pedal?
I got him to make me an mk1 Tone bender, with all nos parts and a bias pot on top along with the vol and fuzz controls. Its the best fuzz I've ever heard. Had it for forever.
And cool feature: the bias pot turned all the way counter clockwise has a switch that disconnects the battery, so you can leave it wired up on your board, and not run the battery out. ( there's no 9v power option )

Tried a lot of fuzz over the years.
This is what has hung around.
The 69 = fuzz face
The Arcane = Tone Bender
The Thorpy = Triangle Muff
The Boss Waza = ? but I like how it sounds

I used, and still have, an EHX BMPwTW for well over a decade; until I I found the ZVex Fuzz Factory

My Source Audio UltraWave can do fuzz too, and so much more. It's one pedal I'll never sell, along with the SA EQ2.

The first pedal I ever purchased was a new EHX Big Muff Pi as a kid, in 1977.

Yea man, he builds some cool stuff. I had a handful of his pedals when I went on a pedal bender during Covid, but the treble booster was the only one I kept. I do miss the red dot fuzz face of his though.

That’s good to know about his mki. I’d love to get an mki someday and he was definitely on the list of possibilities

how do you like that Amp Tweaker tight Fuzz ?? I've thought about building one or two those ...

you got some cool ones in that collection !
It’s super versatile. My favorite thing to do without is put a fuzz face in the loop of it so it kind of acts like the amp getting slammed by the FF and I can control the volume going into a clean amp. It gets the saturation without the huge volume jump.

I’ll did have it modded by James after I got it. I’ll check back through my emails to see exactly what he did, but it was something to do with how the bias adjusts with the fuzz control I think.

Do you know anything about turnip farm fx? I bought a few on a whim on a TGP deal and they are super cool. Don’t know a thing about the builder though.

nah ... never heard of them ...

I've built several Tone Benders ..... you can still get NOS Germanium transistor sets at SmallBear electronics ...

I think I actually have a few " Black Hat " sets still .... My favorite is probably the MK II ..... I build them with a charge pump in the circuit .... that avoids the need for any special plug ..... it will run off a standard 9v supply

I remember looking at a couple of “pumped up” fuzz kits from one of the dealers. I have a mental block when it comes to building them though. Building amps I really enjoy but pedals just don’t make sense to me for some reason. I think I just haven’t taken the time to learn what every component does in the circuit like I have with a bunch of amp circuits.

I did build a byoc green pony that was cool though.

they're quite similar in topology ........ transistors instead of tube stages ... and voltages that can kill you are the big differences ...

Green Pony was the first pedal I ever built ...... still have it somewhere .. built it back in 05 I think ...

Fuzz. Other than the fuzz pedals in the RP1000, I have never owned one. Shame. Shame. Shame.

If I don't like a lot of lows in my tone, what type of fuzz should I look at?
