Hey guys, I've been thinking I'm going to get my bandmate one of these pedals for x-mas- he's currently using a 335 copy into a blues driver into a Princeton (the one in my avatar). He uses the BD for grit at low volumes, and to push the tubes at high volumes...but I think it could sound just that little bit better :) We play a lot of jazz/rock type stuff, and he's into the Black Keys...which of these two pedals would you recommend? I'm leaning towards the OCD at the moment because it's cheaper....Thanks in advance!

Cheers,

bigrig

I have two OCDs, does that make me extremely OCD?!?!?!

Never tried the BB, but I love the OCD, very dynamic.

I do like the OCD very much with a Fenderamp - so I'd say go for it, it is a very flexible and fat sounding pedal.

I can recommend these reviews by pgs:
OCD
and
XOTIC

Greetings

The OCD is more of a distortion as where the BB is more in the vein of a clean boost/overdrive, The BB does amazing things to a already good rythm tone, But the BB cannot sound anywhere near as agressive as the OCD.
I do have to say if your a bedroom player you will like the OCD better, As the xotic pedals have this congested sound to them but in a mix they shine. Which is why i still own the BB  .

They are both entirely different. The BB cannot really get a lot of distortion/gain. The OCD can. BB is way more compressed...OCD is open. I love them both, and that is why I keep both "Ready for Action" like the Dokken song!

The OCD is more dynamic. The BB is more compressed. I liked them both but I kept the OCD. I then purchased a Roccaforte Linear Boost and now that is all I use.

I have both and I don't think one is better than the other. The OCD is fatter and can be a little darker than the BB depending on what amp you're using them with. As far as what they do, it's nearly about the same. They both sound great.

What amp are you going to be using them with?

The BB to me is really for leads because it has some nice compression, and still pushes the mids a bit.

Awesome, thanks for the descriptions guys, it helped me make up my mind- OCD it is

You wont be disapointed. I used to run one as a high gain boost. It can work for brootal tones too.

I thought the BB sounded great and had a TON of gain.

My money is still on the TIM and Timmy.
Not stock? You must have modded the Tim. :D

I have the Timmy and use it as a tunable clean boost for solos.

I have a OCD 1st version and still do, I had A BB pedal, thats my 2 cents :D

For a few weeks i have had an OCD Version 4, a Tim, and a BB Preamp. I sold the OCD, i stopped using the Tim, and I'm still liking the BB. For my setup the BB works because I'm using my Cali Fortin mod which already has a lot of gain. So i didn't need a lot of gain from the pedal and i need the bass control on the BB to add a little umph when i use the single coil in my Anderson to make it sound almost like a humbucker.

I think the OCD would work better on a cleaner or mid gain amp that needed a big push for gain. I don't like the Tim as much as others do.

Try and see if you can try the pedals with that amp at a store.
I own both pedals mentioned and each has been hit or miss with my buddy's Fender collection.

Oh..and if he likes the Black Keys.... maybe get him an nice fuzz/OD hybrid. I'm sure he'd appreciate one made by Earthquaker Devices (the guy is the Key's tech/modder)

would love to try the BB but have never seen one in sweden :(
I owned an OCD v4 a year ago, sold it and got a tonebone trimode, sold that and got the OCD again :) still the best pedal i've had!
