Furman PQ3 Hum/Buzz

So this PQ3 I picked up a few weeks back sounds great BUT it buzzes the minute i even plug it into the wall. When I turn it on there is no change to the buzz. Pushes a Marshall incredibly well though. I am thinking maybe some sort of ground lift is needed. Anyone have any experience with any box that sits between the unit and the wall with a lift option? Or do I need to crack this thing open and do some surgery. Maybe this is why it was cheap.
 
Are you in the high or low input? Or does it do it with both?

YEP^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

They are known to be hissy and noisy anyway in front of an amp but if there are any electrolytic caps in the unit they are probably needing replaced.

Good point. I could probably pop the top and take a look for bubbled caps and swap em out. Looking at gut shots on line, this should not take me long. Def not rocket science:

more of those " awesome " grey IC Caps ....
 
When I had one of these it needed an iso transformer between it and the amp, at least in my set-up. I guess that's why the later PQ4 had a ground lift switch added, and it's a pretty common issue with using mains-powered stuff like that.
