I'm thinking for the 3 time many years later of g system again. I have the rjm mastermind n rg16. Have the gsp1101/grd2 However always loved the g system. Bought it when It first came out n no luck. Too new? Maybe! 3 yrs later tried again. Much better ran w Herbert. Got frustrated again n went to voodoo to rjm. Now once again. I miss their fx the light up board the simplistic set up. But now want to run with my precious Dar Forza!!!
So many years later I see lots of pros rolling w them. How have they changed? I still use my Dunlop rack wah. But maybe there wah is great now. I don't know. But I know some of u guys might have figured this machine out finally. I like the new videos I've seen a few.
Thoughts? Updates on your venture with G?

IMHO, its a great idea that just wasnt built right and I dont think they ever will get it right. In addition, its complicated to setup and program...

For a crazy cool setup that sounds great and is like a quarter of the price, check out the Digitech RP1000. Yeah, that sounds nuts but trust me on that one...

The gsp 1101 n foot controller work flawless. But I'll wait I know some will chime in more.

That is EXACTLY the rig Im getting!!! I like the RP1000 however it doesnt have a MIDI port( Strange to me) and thats what I would use to channel switch my JVM( or anything else with the addition of an amp gizmo) and I have to run cables. With the GSP, it can sit on top of the head and be patched right in.

I also love the fact that the controller is phantom powered and that you can throw it anywhere without having to run any power or signal. The effects are pretty damn good and the routing versatility is great and practical...

On the G system, they have a decent UniVibe and Phaser however theyre part of the modulation block and thats run through the FX loop. Who the hell does that? Then theres the bufferes and the ADA converters and it just isnt anything that I would want to mess with...

The gsp has honestly been flawless on over 200 shows. The only thing is I wish the wah was able to be set so as u step on it... It turns on. I have a preset right next to it delay/wah But the wah does sound great. All the fx are excellent. I do not care for amp models or cab sims. And it's simple to use. I have it set up on rack w Herbert/ wireless/ furnace power. I had a lil hum noise so I got an ebtech noise elim. I use it before amp in. As I am doing 4 cable method.

But like rest gonna build a third system. I was looking at gmaj2 n gcpro. But I like the g sys setup. I had a few problems w it messing w Herbert tone via 4 cable. That's y I quit 2nd time. But it worked on my other amps Marshall splawn diamond. But Herbert was always go to amp still love it but the Dar forza is amazingly different. N gonna build around it.

If youre heart is set on the G System, I would go to the TC forum, G system section and find this manual that a guy there wrote up. It goes into detail on how to change a bunch of things and from what I understand, its a great peice thats helped alot of people. I couldnt be bothered, My inherent lack of patience due to my Italian blood wants and needs things to be alot easier to access, I dont feel that I should have to jump through hoops to get something to work..

The answer is no. The idea of the G system is great and if they ever release a version 2 that fixes all the problems with the 1st one then i'd be all over it. However the current version is a flawed piece of gear that really only seems to work for about half the people who buy it. I owned one and no matter how much money i threw at it i couldnt get it to play nice with my rig.

That is the paper that Laird wrote, he has had great success with the unit, and also will be very honest with you about its shortcomings. However he will point out that some complaints are users not taking the time to understand some core concepts and invest for other items that may or may not be needed based on your system. I owned two in the past, love the concept. However even though it has insert loops I still prefer to pick and choose and use a custom pedalboard than the G System. Less complexity and I have always gotten better overall tone. Again the concept is cool, and the unit looks cool as hell!!

Man I still have my GSP 21 Pro Legend with foot controller from back in the day. Maybe I should play around with it and see what happens

Yeah I know, but would probably be good for a laugh. Those Lynch presets back in the day were KILLER :hys:

And it looks like the 1101 footcontroller is roughly 3 bills. Wouldn't it be better to upgrade to a GCP instead? Or is it that much harder to program than the Digitech controller?

The foot controller automatically works w 1101. I just store the midi on Herbert per preset n done.

I think that the Controller 2 thats used for the GSP1101 is layed out perfectly and again, they were very smart and did it in a logical, practical, guitarist friendly fashion. 10 presets or 5 presets and 5 instant access per bank... These are the kinds of things that you would expect

Anyone compared the 1101 to a Line6HD 500? Seems like the effects would be better in the newer HD model, plus the fact you get an all in one floor unit.

I love mine. I have it set up in sterio with two heads, no 4 cable method, just straight from the outputs and it sounds great. My expression pedal did take a dump on me and i figured out that if you unplug your expression pedals while its on it gets pissed and you have to reload the software. Mine changes the channels of (when i get my mini amp gizmo for the mesa) my amps, i have stompboxes in all 4 loops, and i like how the effects sound on the G system. Only thing it doesnt have that i think im missing is a rotary sound. Dialing up effects and patches can be teedious and a pain, but after a while you get it.

Im on you tube with a few videos of me messing around with my rig, rpaterson33 is my name. I can take some more of certain effects or how i have my patches if you like. Let me know.

Awesome I'll check it. Yes to the gsp over line 6. The gsp fx sound like the real pedals. The unit far succeeds anything digitech ever put out rack wise. I have a few Digitech hardwire pedals they r freakin excellent as well. Anyway the line 6 it all just sounds the same. Like a lil more gain or less a lil more effect or less. Nothing that just stands out. I put up a couple real pedals against the gsp that I had that were the same n remarkably very much spot on. As close as u get rack wise. I will not knock real pedals they do one thing n one thing perfect.

Not that I'm dumping gsp I think I wanna whirl w g system again.

Cool thanks for the info. I would use it more as an effects unit rather than trying to use the amp models. But, if they sound that good I can see myself migrating that way eventually.
