Yep, great stuff
He is sorely missed. Even when not many people knew about him, he was a giant. As MW said, every time he played, he played as though his life depended on it. His vibrato was the thing that always made me pay attention, you gotta dig in and work for that kind of vibrato and it takes a long time to develop, but its the fire from within that he always had.
Hard to believe he's been gone as long as it's been...
I saw him late one night on TV, they played End of the World, and it changed everything for me...

I feel like this thread is my fault....after my "i don't get Gary Moore" comment lol. If it gets guys introduced to a great player and helps fellow rig talkers reminisce on some kick ass moments, I'm glad I said it!

I'm a huge Gary Moore fan, love all his music. The hard rock/metal stuff I like the most but I've been checking out the Colosseum II stuff lately and it's pretty killer too.

not your fault, I posted this thread a couple years ago.

Gary had this thing where..in some of his solo's he'd hit a note that sounded a bit off but it hooked you...of course never a wrong note but just..off?? Hope that makes sense? lol!

I think I remember Randy Rhoads saying he was a fan in an interview so I ran out and bought Corridors of Power but yeah it was Victims that really got me hooked.
For me it was Lynch saying Shapes of Things was like THE metal solo of ‘84 or whatever, THAT made me sit up and take notice, and a buddy had the vinyl with End Of The World on it so I was aware of that and he was interviewed on that PBS show Rock School about equipment. Great player, seemed like a really nice bloke too. Vivian Campbell and John Sykes sang his praises as well, like the players player.

Ozzy actually wanted Gary before hiring Randy. True story. Gary turned it down.
I've also heard that it was because Sharon liked Randy's looks better. But the connection was there all the same.
Gary turned the Ozzy gig down because he had just left Lizzy because of Phil's addictions...he would have been stepping from the frying pan into the fire with Ozzy. And the "guitar world" is the better for it from the viewpoint that we got alot of great albums in the 80's with Gary and the world got Randy.

Agreed with other posts too,Gary's best stuff for me was his thin lizzy, then solo rock years. And I absolutely love his blues era..but man,he was on fire in his rock era.
I bought corridors on cassette and vinyl when it came out.I have a live thin lizzy cd with him and John Sykes. Its killer. The live album We want Moore is awesome too.
We miss you Gary! r.i.p.

Its called outside the box my friend

I love Gary's rock and roll guitar playing. "Over The Hills And Far Away" has some of his best playing Ive ever heard. The outro solo in Over The Hills is probally my favorite thing he ever did. Gary was a triple threat on singing, playing and songwriting. He is sorely missed and its criminal that the Guitar magazines have not done a feature story on him after his passing.
