Has anyone had a chance to play one? Are there any comparisons between the Cornford and say PT 100? Im actually hoping someone will tell me that what I have or have owned blows the Cornford away and that it's just a bad case of gas that will pass...lol!

Hmmm... That's an impressive list of amps. Cornford amps have been on the radar for me as well. I think you should go for it and report back with your findings.

The Cornford reminds me of a SLO with a bit of Marshall arrrghh folded back into it. They call the tone "transatlantic", and that´s pretty spot-on. Definitely a very cool amp, especially for leads... but today there are many amps that do about the same thing.

I would LOVE to get one as well.....killer, killer amps

save your cash.

you already have an slo.

i thought my slo sounded much fuller and thick and less stiff than the mk2 that i played.

plus i prefer 100 watters

Thanks guy's for all the input. You know how it is when you wanna try something bad that you can never find. Im trying to convince myself I dont need to spend another $3000, so thanks for reminding me that I have all that I need. And whatever tone the Cornford can provide, I have something similar that can gimme the goods. :)

I have had a Cornford and a PT100, both are great but if you have a PT100 and a SLO 100 save your money, the tonal crossover is not enough of a difference to justify $3000 period!!

The tone Kotzen has at the end of this video kills me -- Great tone from the MK2.

I'm assuming a SLO would be in that ballpark. It's not really gain, but it seems to have tons of sustain and body with enough gain for leads.

Love it.

Agree that you're in a similar ballpark tonally, but to me, the Cornford is by FAR my favorite of those three amps (I've owned all three) in terms of dynamics, feel, and response.

It's tough to say whether it would fit the OP well, because I think a ton of what that amp can offer depends on your personal technique.

I have a heavier right hand, rake strings, etc; for me, the Cornford amps are damn near perfect.

Agree the cornford mk's are a great amp, not easy to find the mk50II though.

I agree with you in regards to the Cornford being my favorite of the 3 as well. I was just stating with the other 2 already in possession unless he wants to get into an amp swapping game, the $3000 is not worth the little difference that is there to me. In terms of dynamics, feel and response The Cornford rules, the PT100 is more versatile to me, fender cleans, marshall mid gain, good high gain and drop tuning madness where the Cornford does not cover quite as much ground. However for my style of playing I would take a Cornford over the other two as well.

I have heard you play also, you have great technique and use the dynamics of the amp to your favor, so I can definitely see why you will like they Cornford the best. Your playing is incredibly good!!

Great amps. Sometimes there are issues on them but the US distributor (Wally) is super supportive. Good luck in trying to reach someone in the mothership in UK though.

That said, I own a Mk50H (same as Mk50II sans the clean channel) - and it's not going anywhere. Many amps came and went, this one stays.

@ttosh-

I think you're dead on; the OP should definitely try a Cornford and see if the difference is worthwhile for him.

I really dig the SLO and the PT, both fantastic amps, the Cornford just works best for me.

Thanks for the kind words; I've heard you play, and you're no slouch yourself! :D

go to youtube and they have a comparison shootout between a Cornford mk 50 and a soldano avenger and they sounded almost the same. U wouldnt be able to tell the differance with a blindfold on judging from their overdrives.

Yea, but in the room it's a different story. I had a '94 SLO halfstack right next to my Cornford MKII rig..I loved the tone of both equally both very very similiar and I put el34's in the Cornford. The Cornford sounded ever so slightly more present(it was new). The deal with the Cornford is 2 amazing loops, sweet clean channel all footswitchable with a boost feature and 2nd master for soloing.

This is the clip that sold me on a Cornford MK50. Ironically enough I purchased this exact amp from Vic. The Cornford is a little darker than an SLO. The Slo has cutting upper mids. The MK has the most uniqe cut in the lower treble frequencies. I miss the amp. I was days away from having an MK 100 watter EL34 built when the CCV came up and I bit on that.

Cornford sounds great and very close to that of the SLO.
