Cl guy wants $875 for a late 80 or early 90s model. Im going to go play theone I played originally again and see what shakes out. Not sure I want a 20+ year old guitar.

Too much. If you find an older one I can tell you how much to pay.

How much and how long for the custom?

Too much and 1.5 years. Paid in full September 2008 and received date was March 2010.

ESP Japan refused to send it 3 day mail to the states and sent it by boat which took over 6 weeks. You can no longer do custom special orders anymore as when they kicked out the new model system they relocated a lot of workers at their factories - the factory that used to do the custom specials and/or custom shop orders now only does custom shop orders.

A rare bird in the states. Snow white was only offered in Europe/Australia/Germany.

I had to work with my dealer which had to work with ESP USA located in California in order to receive it directly from ESP Japan.

The first time they sent it they sent the wrong specs...they sent a rosewood fb/maple neck through MII which i was told i could keep for the same price but i specifically ordered a bolt on neck as i prefer the tone of them. That definitely delayed the process a bit.

Nothing but horror stories of messed up specs on custom ordered guitars from ESP. There have been WAY too many to keep track of.

I've had 8 Mirages and still have two old custom shops Mirages.

The M series guitars are sexy as hell IMO. Reverse headstock does it to me all the time lol. I had a couple Horizons which are cool too but the necks on those are a bit too narrow for me sometimes. I have a M-II CTM at the moment. It has a wider neck and more towards a D shape back profile than the horizons.

Here are a couple pics:

such great ESP awesomeness

I also played an ESP FR-II Horizon and thought it was no comparison to the MII's as well. I thought the neck was thicker myself? At least the newer models just before the name/model switch over. I also love the satin neck of my MII - finished necks are not my favourite thing in the world.

Yes the necks on the Horizons have a thicker back profile.... What Im saying is the fretboard on the M-II is wider. The back of the neck is not as "chunky" on the M-IIs... It is a bit thinner but its also a flatter more D backsshape.... Where the Horizon is shaped more like a baseball bat, So its fatter on the back yet narrower side to side .

agree 100%

One thing ordered custom on my neck was a thin modern C shape instead of a D. I think it measures .730 at the first fret which is nothing like a normal horizon. I love the old charvel C necks from the 80's but that profile is super rare to find. Caparisons and old charvels are about the only place i have found it - so that was what took so long at the custom shop for the one that i own.

I do know one thing - the horizon wasnt just a little thicker in the back...it was a whole lot thicker. there is a lot of wood in horizon necks.

In general I dont find any Esp necks to be super thin or very flat in the back. They all have some meat in different flavors. I tend not to like super thin necks much anymore anyways. For example those old Ibanez Wizard II necks which I loved in the 80s\90s because they were so thin, those necks I wouldnt care much for these days.
