Got a used six string guitar, and I want to put 10-56 strings on it. That require some filing at the nut. Has anyone ever returned a guitar to GC after doing this or something similar? No other mods would be done to it.

Thanks!
I honestly think they wouldn't even know. If you told them that might make it un-returnable. But, I've bought items there that have been bought previously and returned, and altered before return. They seemed to accept them. Different speakers in cabs than the pictures etc.

Remind me not to buy anything from you.

You understand that he’s saying that he has purchased items that someone else had previously bought, altered, and then returned and the GC folk didn’t seem to have a problem accepting it back.

Yeah, I can read... He also said this:
"I wouldn’t say anything about it if you intend on returning it".

And this: "If you told them that might make it un-returnable."

If we're so honest, why keep secrets?
No, apparently you can't read. I never said "I wouldn't say anything about it if you intend on returning it."

My point is simply this: If you do alter something they may not accept the return. I've returned 4 cabs that were supposed to have G12 65s or 6402 coned GB reissues..when I got the cabs they had M70s or newer T75s. The pics they had showed the speakers I wanted. Someone clearly bought and then swapped speakers, then returned the cab. GC never checked in the cab upon return.

I read just fine. And if you claim to, you'll realize I wasn't referring to you, I was quoting ObliviousDC.

Hey everybody. Filing a nut slot on a guitar is the same as swapping speakers in a cab. It's theft pure and simple.

Whatever man. I still stand behind what I said. It's not a significant alteration and won't affect the next person to use the guitar. Nobody's harmed by this action. And if it was me I wouldn't say anything about doing it if, afterward, I didn't like how it played and wanted to return it. My only caveats would be if it was a new guitar, or an expensive used guitar, and if I botched the job I'd tell them and take my lumps. But on a used 3 or 4 hundred dollar beater - I'd have zero qualms about doing whatever needed to be done to make it playable by my standards and then evaluate whether I liked it or not.

Not sure i get the debate. Swapping a nut on a guitar is pretty damn basic isn't it? GC has luthiers on the floor. I would hope they could change a nut on a guitar..if you swapped necks or pickups/pots and were trying to get over i could understand the integrity* being in question. A fucking nut? Wow. They may even do it for you, or file it for you or if they cant do either should they be buying used guitars in the 1st place? Maybe its a consignment shop in disquise.lmaool

I got a guitar from GC. The nut slots weren't filed enough so I filed them with my diamond nut files and made them perfect.
I did return that guitar. Is this ok to do? :D

Hey. I can file a mean nut slot. Made that piece of shit I got from GC play so much better in the action. I also set the neck perfectly, leveled 2 high frets perfectly, and set the intonation on my strobe. Do you think this was blasphemy to do to do this guitar? Shit they never should have accepted my return in this condition as it was very altered from how they sent it. True story btw.

Man, I've been too damn lazy to switch out an MCP or two when I've returned a guitar to GC. Score for someone else. Lol
