ive always wanted to get an RJM effects gizmo, reality comes down to what i can afford.

has anyone used both and can account for both?

what does the RJM offer that the GCX doesnt?

i plan to be using a voodoo labs GCP

i (hopefully) plan to buy it all used.

another question, does anyone know whether the GCP has the ability to run an extension board?

thanks ahead of time

RJM all day. GCX needs to be modded to be a clean as they RJM..

have you used both?

what do you mean clean? google isnt saying anything bad about GCX's needing to be modified for sound quality?

it would be nice to have an explanation as to what exactly was wrong with the GCX's you used please :)

What do you mean by an extension board. I've got one of the ground control ground link (for sale actually) devices that lets you have instant access to all 8 GCX loops, freeing up your IA buttons on the GCP to be anything else you want.

ahh, i apologize. an extension footswitch - an extension of the original GCP to allow for more instant access footswitches up top and/or a bank extension switches on the bottom row?

it seems the link boards only allow CC/IA use storage.

could the IA buttons on the GCP then be programmed to control PC commands simillar to the 1-4 buttons on the bottom, or do they have to be CC like the ground control ground link and/or normal IA function?

are the internals of RJM's PCB or PTP/PCB hybrid?

i noticed that GCX's have PCB mounted hardware - jacks/etc, which is a bit dis-concerning :aww:

and thanks for the detailed info - ill keep that in mind when deciding between the two :)

Everything is board mounted on both.

RJM has a better buffer.

As Rez said, one thing to do to the GCP if you have a bunch of pedals to put in series is to hardwire the outs to the ins of the next loop. Saves on jumping loops.

The RJM has a little better isolation for running two amps - not much better, but better.

I don't think Digital Corp makes an extension board for the GCX. There is certainly no plug on the main board to accept one. However, you can run 4 switchers from one board. Someone above mentioned some kit, but I don't know about it.

I only used the GCX really to route signal to an Intellifex without any pedals. Just lets me completely take it out of the FX loop and its main use is to phantom power the GCP. It's never failed me though and has been abused.

The RG16 adapts well to all midi controllers. Easy to program. Ron's midi controller leaves a little to be desired, but he is coming out with a bad ass controller this summer that was shown at the last NAMM. Will have alpha numerics and colors.

For customer service, RJM all the way. Ron is the best. He and Sheri will always answer a question or help you out. Good folks......

Can't speak from experience for GCX, but what Steve says about Ron and Sherri and RJM...BIG TIME +1 :rawk:

Over the years I've owned a few GCX's, GRX4's, Switchblades and an Effects Gizmo.
Regarding the GCX specifically, I hated how they pulled life from pedals in the loops.
I just received the Effects Gizmo last week. It handles pedals very nicely. Tone suck is minimal. Sound quality is on par with a GRX4 or Switchblade.
Routing, programming and flexibility is a breeze with the EG. I highly recommend it over a GCX.

As for running two GCPros, John Clark claims they're working on a chip upgrade that will allow one to be master and another to slave off it for added 12 IA's, but as of today it's still an empty promise that's going on, I believe, a year now.

I owned/used both and now have a MarkL looper, not as readily available in the US as the other 2 but it sounds better than both.
If the choice is between the GCX and RJM only, go with the RJM.
