It's only 1 side of the story, but GT presents much more "normal" and level headed then I expected...seems like an underhanded money screw job. I can flip flop with the best of them though, so I'd like to hear the other side

I see the opposite myself. Everything I've ever heard or read about GT has led me to see him as an egomaniacal control freak. Sounds to me like the band was looking to break free of his grip and start out fresh again. This little excerpt of the article speaks volumes to me:

"I asked them straight up about the rumors I'd heard about them replacing me. I was definitely concerned about this. What kind of plan was that? Was it serious? What was going on? They said that they weren't planning on replacing me, but they had just fired our manager, our office assistant and one of our guitar techs, who all happened to be my family members."

All of those were his family members?!?!....sheessh. And, then there was the dispute spoke of in the article about how he argued with the rest of the band regarding in which direction they wanted the merchandising to go. Naturally, he paints a nice picture in how they would lose more money going the route they wanted to go....but, I'm sure there is more to the story what he says, if the entire band was against him. Not to mention, you see him speaking in the article about how "I did this, I wrote this, I was the band!" (figuratively speaking) It sounds to me like the rest of the band is glad to be done with him.

I'd like to hear the other side of this story. In the end, I suspect there is probably plenty of blame on both sides.

When Tribe was released, there was a printed interview with MW where he complained that GT had too much influence in the writing and that MW didn't like the musical direction.

I can't remember who published that interview, but it seems they were headed for trouble years ago.

I have no doubt Geoff Tate suffers from LSD, but he comes across pretty level headed. There's two sides to every story and five sides to every band story, so it'll be interesting to see if any of the original members fire back with their version of the truth.

But some interesting excerpts from the producer/writer of Mindcrime. Even back then it seems like the band was disengaged in the process. Lends a certain credibility to what Geoff's saying.

It's always Tates fault........... Tate can only write to what has been "brought to the table" if nobody shows up with songs it's not a question of Geoff being open to them,it's a matter of their not being any songs. I went into this record thinking it was gonna be a walk in the park.QR,they gotta have a shitload of songs,I'll pick through em ,find the best and we'll make a record. That wasnt the case, Wilton had a couple riffs and that was it.We extended the schedule and Geoff, Stone and I got down to the business of writing this record.Simple as that.Wilton wrote great stuff with Degarmo, but Degarmo aint around anymore.Wilton was more than welcome to come down and work with us in the basement,he just chose not to.Whats the old quote "time waits for no man"? Ed came buy and threw down a few good ideas (all of which Geoff used) and the few riffs Whip brought in we turned into songs. I GUARANTEE you if Wilton walks in tommorow with a done song and hands it to Geoff tommorow it will be on the next QR record. To blame Geoff for not being open to other peoples ideas is retarded, the guy just wants to make the best record possible,he's not gonna turn down a great song no matter who it comes from.Plenty of stuff Stoney and I wrote didnt make the cut,but thats just part of the process.Geoff made a point of me taking every idea Whip brought in and turning it into a song.Everything he brought made it on the record.

I watched QR on HDNet twice this summer. The M3 (I think) festival and Rocklahoma. M3 they rocked and he seemed pretty cool. Rocklahoma he was egomaniac for sure. The crowd wasn't responding the way he wanted so he threw a fit and began to insult the crowd. What a deuche bag. He seemed to have a bad case of LSD at Rocklahoma.

seems like if he wrote 81 % of the songs, music and lyrics that he should have a greater stake in Queensryryche than 25%

Apples and Oranges. QR is a business and a brand. Music is just one part of their business.

No, you got it all wrong:
Sometimes the audience needs some direction...That was just me getting the audience fired up. They needed it.

Tate has been a douche for years. And it seems like he and his wife have had the whole Lennon/Ono deal going for much of it.

Wilton has always been like a "lost little puppy". After DeGarmo left, Kelly Gray had to lead him around, and after that, Mike Stone, etc. Seriously, for years he's reminded me of the not-all-there characters that Ron Howard's little bro always plays in movies.

Honestly, the ONLY guy in the band that I've had any respect for since Chris left is Scott Rockenfield.

And these criticisms are coming from a guy who used to WORSHIP at the altar of QR back in the Warning thru Empires days. I remember visiting Seattle for the first time back in '91, landing at SEATAC airport, and driving down the interstate from there heading toward Bremerton and thinking "this is the airport that QR flies out of, and this is highway that Queensryche drives on" and being stoked about it. Unfortunately... it's been downhill ever since.

mmmm...
3 things come to mind immediately..
1 Chris had WAY more to do with the early songs than he is getting credit for by GT.. not cool.. not cool at all
2 Having your whole family working for the band is probably not a good idea, although I'm sure it seemed like one at the time
3 Once you do a cabaret tour, you know the end has got to be near. Why act so suprised??

Sad, I was as die-hard a Queensryche fan as there ever was up until Chris left, I still supported them afterwards, but the music was not as defined and visionary as the first 5 albums. I've seen every tour since the begining. Some of them 3-5 times in different venues. I guess all things come to an end.
RIP DR X :aww:

I liked parts of Mindcrime II, but that tune with Dio is a catastrophe
Their sauce did not make a good goulash

I still think he has something more up his sleeves he isnt telling us.

If it doesn't get better then Queensryche then it's time to kill yourself.

I LOL'ed   But I don't believe he was referring to the band itself in the context of his philosophical waxing.

I know, I was just f**kin with him. Though that kind of banter is old school and really turns me off, always has.

werd. it is pretty tired.

They ended for me after Empire, I have that in my memories and that is that.

They are not going back in time, just listen to what you have and stop pining for something that is not going to happen.
