Sounds interesting.

Whelp, I guess the cat is out of the proverbial bag. Nikki Blakk has announced that Paul Bostaph and I have played most of the music on Geoff Tate's Queensryche record. It is being mixed by Jason Slater as I type this and it is WAY HEAVIER then most anyone is expecting!

Geoff and Jason have been nothing but awesome to us and it gave Paul and I a chance to contribute together on a metal record once again. I was working on it for a few weeks and play on every song. There are kick ass solo contributions from Dave Meniketti, Ty Tabor, Brad Gillis, KK Downing and Chris Cannella. As well as bass played by Rudy Sarzo and more drums from Simon Write. It's some great company to be around and it was an honor to be a part of it.

I know what the perception of the Queensryche camp is and I really don't give a f*ck. QR was one of my favorite bands from the EP through Operation Mindcrime. When I was approached about doing the record I did contemplate all of the turmoil, but I love a challenge. I accepted the challenge and think Geoff has a kick ass record to deliver the fans...in spite of what some may expect. The songs are cool, classy and in some cases stupidly heavy!

Ty Tabor and Brad Gillis, eh? Two of my heroes, I might have to check this out... I've been trying to not read too much of the QR drama, as I just don't care about that side of things. I just want to hear a good record, from either camp.

I have really, REALLY mixed feelings abt these two QR's that are recording at the moment. On the other hand, Geoff Tate was once THE voice of metal for me, right beside RJD, Halford and Dickinson and QR was right up there with Maiden and Priest...and now they're fighting, spitting, hitting, lowballing each other in media, they sue each other in court etc. What a complete mess.

Yeah, GT's roster looks impressive. Originally he had Bobby Blotzer and Glenn Drover in there as well, but they bailed out quite quickly. The band at the moment is supposed to be Simon Wright, Rudy Sarzo, Kelly Gray, Robert Sarzo and Randy Gane. Apparently only Rudy and Simon play on the upcoming album, the rest of the instruments are all guest appearances and the like.

The other QR, formed by the remaining original members Scott Rockenfield, Michael Wilton and Eddie Jackson plus the latest CDG replacement Parker Lundgren, have recruited former Crimson Glory vocalist Todd La Torre to handle the singing duties. They're recording as well at the moment with James Barton at the helm.

Funny really if GT puts out a really heavy album. Hasn't he said in many interviews how he loathes metal and heavy music in general, and that he will never play metal, or am I mistaken here?

The date for the court case is set November 18th this year. Somehow I've gotten the feeling that the two QR's are racing to get their album published first and gain the upper hand this way for the court case.

It'll be very interesting to see how this mess turns out!

It's good to see KK laying down some tracks again. Even if it is for that d-bag Tate.

I found this quite amusing

Drover was in Tate's "original line-up" for his version of QR but didn't play a single note before bailing out. Apparently Lita Ford and Chris Poland have joined the guest list for GT's forthcoming QR album as well  .

Very cool. I will def check it and always get behind the metal flag when it flies. It seems like metal is and rock is maybe getting some traction again.

Chris DG was the principal writer of all the great songs in QR IMO. Will never be the same without him regradless of who is singing.

Correction:

I'll always miss Chris DeGarmo...

yeah, me too. That band was never the same after he left.

Actually, they were never the same even before he left. He was still there for a dud or two. I'm sure the tension and control issues within the band had already taken their toll though, which probably effected the music too.

Degarmo and Tate sat down for a radio interview a few years ago in Seattle to discuss the history of Queeensryche, this was about 2 years ago. They asked him (degarmo) why he left, he kind of danced around the question but finally said something along the lines that he wanted to remain friends with the band members, and that wouldn't be possible if he was in the band. So I think as others have said the dysfunction started a long time ago.

Blah, I won't believe anything until I hear it. Weren't we told how great Mindcrime 2 was going to be!

Kelly Grey, old pal from the past, produced our 2nd record.

interesting mix of personnel (big Tabor fan here). Might be worth a listen

"Stupidly heavy"

Reserving judgment until I hear it. I don't give a fuck about the drama - but I will be on board if it rocks. As a long time QR fan, that's what's important to me
