I´d be very surprised if that tone is anything else than a good Superlead and a Tubescreamer. I´d say the plexi channel of the Smallbox running into the greenbacks definitely is the way to go and should be super close, but I´m not familiar enough with those pedals to know if they can nail the Tubescreamer thing. Should be a Duncan Distortion at that point, too, it´s before the Screamin Demon.
Any suggestion about the settings on the Plexi channel of my Smallbox?

I wouldn’t use the Plexi channel to get George’s level of gain . What is channel 2 called on the Small Box ? I’d use that channel and a boost pedal
I agree. The BE channel on my Small Box with a Maxon OD808 overdrive will get me into Lynch territory pretty easy. And using the Friedman Buxom Boost with the Small Box will give you all kinds of ways to fine tune the tone you want. I just used my Buxom Boost for the first time with the band at church on Saturday and Sunday and I already love the pedal. Of course a lot of it is in the hands too. Lynch is such a big influence on me and the way I hear, think and play electric guitar that it is easy for me to pull that out of the Small Box. I am no George Lynch but I have fun trying to play like him. Lynch is still my favorite player.

How would you compare the Buxom Boost to a TS type pedal ? I`ve always used a TS as a boost to tighten up the low end and add some saturation

I think George's tone on Back for the Attack is great on some songs and not good at all on others. Kiss of Death I think fools you. The riff is cool, the playing is great but the tone, IMO is downright awful. The distortion characteristics in that intro sound like something is wrong with the amp.

This is all my opinion. I know others will disagree and I'm OK with that. If you love that tone, go for it.
I'm actually in full agreement on all of that, and I love the song and whole album all the way, but that recorded tone (on some songs including Kiss of Death like you said) was generally a step down from Under Lock & Key for me.

I remember George once saying in an interview something to the effect he wasn't originally happy with his tone on that album, but it grew on him later on.
I can totally understand your point because I hated that tone when I first bought the album. The tone he had on the Under Lock and Key album is totally amazing. But I read an interview with George about him recording 4 tracks with different amps for all the rhythm parts and that the sound of the guitar was really thin and nasal when played alone. But as a whole, it's fat sounding. Like with George the tone of Kiss of Death grew on me too and now I love that tone

To update you all I've now got the tone about 90% right using my Smallbox on the BE Channel boosted by the Friedman Buxom Boost. This goes into the UAD Neve 88RS and EQ'd using UAD Neve 31102. It sounds great to that point that I don't want to "fix" the remaining 10%. Thanks for all your input about this :)

The Buxom Boost gives you more of the tone you already have and the tight knob makes it very tight if you want to. It will also get you loads of saturation if you want too...much more than any TS type of pedal can.
Best boost pedal I've ever tried...and I've tried and owned tons of pedals.

Man, I gotta try that pedal out someday. It sounds like a really cool one.

BTW, I bet that missing percentage of Lynch tone you need is probably as simple as lowering bass a bit and upping mids. You've gone this far, keep going!!! :)

Cool , I’ll have to check one out. This might be a dumb question but with the buxom boost In front of a dirty amp in full eq mode I`m assuming the more boost you dial in the more saturation and grit you add ?

That's cool man! Glad you are having success getting it dialed in too!

The saturation kicks in at about 11 o'clock. But it still retains the "DNA" of the amps tone and gain structure. It really sounds as if your amp just had more gain and saturation on tap. Amazing design!

The tone on Back For The Attack is my favorite Lynch tone , not to mention my favorite Dokken tape. Those open chords and palm mutes on "Lost Behind The Wall" are pert near perfect. In my experience , any Marshall with a master volume + a heavy right hand gets me right in that wheelhouse. Now excuse me while I go and listen to "Dream Warriors"!

The opening groove of "Stop Fighting Love" from BFTA is perfection as far as I'm concerned.
