As some of you know, I’m a big Chubtone groupie. With all of the craziness going in addition to some unforeseen expenses, I needed some money. I listed my Roccaforte and my green Chubtone for cheaper than I should have and my intent was to only sell the one that sold first. Well. I ended up agreeing to selling both in case one fell through. I was literally depressed for last 2 weeks from selling the Chubtone. I had money from the Roccaforte and was trying to find a replacement for the Chubtone, but I couldn’t find anything. On a whim yesterday, I went to a local guitar store, and ran into the guy I sold it to. I told him that I hope he was enjoying it and that I regretted selling it. He said he could tell that I really didn’t want to sell it and said he’d sell it back to me for the same price. I picked it back up last night. I am so glad there are some classy people left in this world.

Nice! Most people aren't like that. I think a TRUE musician is the only type of person who would do that in a transaction.

That's great! Once you find a guitar that you bond with ya gotta stick with them. I have my favorite 4 and out of those 2 are my most played, I will never sell them.

+1

There's gear that I have parted with in the past to pay bills in college and thought nothing of it.

But then there's gear that I hung onto all through college and likely will continue to do so for as long as I can play and never plan on selling.

My 1999 EVH Wolfgang because of the rarity of the color and the condition it's in
My 2019 Seafoam Green Gibson because it's a good sounding chunk of wood that plays great which is hard to come by
My 1974 Marshall converted to 2203 with Dagnall Iron because it's a good sounding marshall that is irreplaceable.
My 5150 II because it's been modified to sound the way I like - there's not another out there.

The rest I could part ways within a pinch. I'd be sad to see the fender select go, but I don't play it as much now that I've got the LP's.

It's taken me the better part of 20 years to find the guitars and amps that I do own now. It's hard work weeding out all of the bad stuff to get the gear that makes playing easier and more fun while developing your tone.

So....if the guy loved the guitar you sold him and wanted to keep it he wouldn't be classy?

This reminds me of the time I paid a bit too much for a guitar from a gear whore (but I liked the guitar and didn't care) and he hounded me for several years about selling him back his guitar. He got pushy and borderline rude/obnoxious a few times until I stood him up and had to remind him he sold it, I bought it, it isn't his any longer. He really felt I owed it to him to sell it back when he was ready. The reason I mention price here is that it wasn't a cheap sell or anything like that. Just a gear whore who flips constantly and had wanted something back again on a whim that he felt he missed.

Glad you got it back.

I have a different take on guitars. I’ve sold a few I shouldn’t have, but in retrospect I sold them because I didn’t want them and fully justified the sale. Guitars for me are way more personal, which is why I only own a few. I currently own five guitars. Out of those five, I only play two. The other three are there just in case. My Les Paul and Strat are just in case guitars. I rarely play them.

Kind and understanding of the dude.

Kudos to him, and great luck for you, Scottosan.

Your karma dictated you should get it back. I know from experience. :D

How could you read that and end up with the logic and comparisons you just listed?

1. How’s does complimenting someone for a good deed equate to the opposite is they didn’t?

2. How does me saying “I hope you’re enjoying the guitar, I regret selling it”, remind you of a story about a guy that continued to harass you about getting a guitar back? He is the one that initiated conversation with me. I did not plea with him or repeatedly pressure him.

I had a guy want to reverse a deal, but honestly I said no. Then he got really whiney about it and bothered me and I blocked him. It is what it is. When the deal is done, it's done.

OP didn't hound the guy. The guy was cool he knew it was a treasured piece of gear, and did something altruistic. That's just a nice guy. It's not like the OP was begging him.

Class is a different thing altogether either way.

I’ve pretty much only sell to bro’s here. We sell buy trade back forth. When a good friend of mine bought one my amps. He said ‘brother if you ever want it back it’s yours. ‘
Think 2 years later I did. And he sold it back. But for the most part it’s just stuff. I got enough stuff.

I sold a buddy mine. Long time local friend from the 80s. My Engl powerball
Told him just take it home. Pay what you can when you can.
That was over a year ago. He’s about half paid. Honestly I don’t care. He’s loving it and in tough times I said ‘take care your family first. It’s just an amp’
I like to hook up people as I’ve been greatly hooked up before in the past.

Nice to hear a good story like this. There are lots of good people in the world. Way to many pricks as well....I remember a few years back when I sold a Torpedo live to a member here. I gave it to him for a stellar price. He said he wasn’t sure if he would want to keep it as he was comparing it with something else, so i told him that I would buy it back for the same price if he didn’t want it. He ends up selling it to a poor soul on here a week later for $200 more than what I sold it to him for and he didn’t return my emails or PMs saying I would buy it back from him. I should have called him out on it.

That guy is one greedy first class pr$#k.

Screw that shit. What an asshole.

Personally flipping gear is a big part of my 'gear fund' if he is a cool bro I will generally take very good care of him. Some random dude on CL, his deal is his deal. If I can make money off of him, I will, but I won't lie or deceive. PERIOD. I bought a USA Peavey 80's guitar for $40. That's what they were asking. Two months later it sold on Reverb for $500ish + shipping. I have no problem with that. He should have done his research (AKA Google) no harm no foul. If I would have said $30 I would have been a dick. He got what he asked for. His problem, not mine.

Real life friends get what I paid for it. Friends/family/bros I refuse to make money off of. That's my main policy.

Random CL dudes, I won't lie, or decieve, but if the asking price is too low, and I get something from them, that is their problem. IMO YMMV.

Awesome man ... I actually just got back a custom carvin last year that I had stupidly sold.

It was a 24 fret cs6 that I had toured Europe with a few times. Never should have sold the thing!

I hit up the dude i sold it to on ebay and he was cool to sell it back ! It was a very happy day when she returned home.

I think sometimes we get caught up in the BS of flipping stuff but when you find an instrument you connect with just keep it ! Lesson learned....

My initial comment was would you have thought he was a classy dude if your outcome never happened or came up?

It's great you got a guitar back and all, no worries. I never said you initiated anything with the guy. I never said you pleaded for anything with the guy. Your story reminded me of my story. Simple as that, end of story. It isn't very often that you hear of anybody getting something back they sold etc. so yes, your story reminded me of mine. Enjoy your new again to you guitar.

I wasn't aware that in order to comment on anything here you had to be in the exact same situation to be able to do so. :D   :gethim:

Badass!!! I love a good story like that when someone is humble and realizes what something means to a person and makes it happen.
