Getting my EVH Music Man back tonight...

but I have a question for anyone that has one.

Does yours have a tremolo spring retainer installed? To make a long story short, I haven't touched the guitar in 4-5 years...it was beat to hell from constant use for 20+ years. I finally took it to my local shop for a fret job and other stuff. When I went in this morning to drop my Variax off for work, I was told the EVH would be done in a few hours if I wanted to come back tonight to pick it up. He also told me he couldn't find the retainer in the case. I can't remember if these guitars even use one or not?

If I do need one, does anyone know where I can order it?

Thanks...looking forward to playing this after all these years!

String or spring retainer??

Spring retainer. The piece that holds the springs on in the back for the tremolo. It's usually a plate that uses 2 screws to hold it on top of where the spring ends sit in.

I bought an Axis a few years ago that was missing that and the string tension bar. The guy that worked on the guitar for the guy that I bought it from said they didn't need to be on it  . I didn't agree with that guy and bought the parts directly from EBMM and set up the guitar myself. I figure if it came on it from the factory then it needed to be on there. Especially the string tension bar! That keeps your strings in tune when clamping down.
As far as the little plate you're talking about, I believe it needs to be there to set the proper angle at the bridge when it rests on the body.

BTW, how are you liking the BE since ditching the AX8??

Apparently, the EVH doesn't use the plate. My luthier did some research and found that it just uses 2 screws to hold it down. I didn't think there was ever a plate there either...so it's good to go and I got it back last night.

I'm loving the BE100. The AX8 is a great piece of gear but the BE is the best amp I've ever owned. It pairs nicely with my Helix.

Post a pic of it man, i love these guitars big time. I just put mine up for sale and i think i will pull it down, not to play it but just for nostalgia. Mine is still a nice un faded purple, wouldnt want it to fade so i almost never played it.

Just for the hell of it. I'm gigging with the sunburst one tonight.

Damn dude, that is one sic EVH collection you got there.

Here's mine:

So what's the verdict? How's the guitar after being worked on? You've been silent

Bought this super rare green EVH from Fancy Music in Santa Barbara back in 1994. It is without question the best sounding and playing EVH guitar I've ever come across. Played it exclusively for 5 years or so, then retired it to its case and it's been there ever since. Don't want it to fade or get dinged/scratched etc...my first REAL guitar

Sorry about that. I'm away until tomorrow night. I did get the guitar and it felt great. The neck feels almost new. It will always have rust and bumps and bruises but that was my sweat for 20 years.

Sucks that you can't get replacement saddles for those anymore

Damn, you should have sold that thing in the early 2000's when they were hitting $9k...These days the collectors are few and far between and aren't really buying high anymore. I sold my green last year that was in near mint condition and had all the paperwork and original receipt and only got $3400 for it.
