Just got a killer deal on 1982 Gibson Les Paul Standard in limited edition candy apple red. Only thing is the seller was a smoker and it has that smell. Any suggestions for getting rid of it?
Rubbing alchohol will harm a nitro finish where as varsol won't. Hard to believe but it's true.Ancient Alien":3ty9byah said:Wipe the guitar down with rubbing alcohol on a clean cotton cloth.
Use a good fretboard cleaner like Roche-Thomas premium fingerboard oil.

Right there! Fabric softener in the case. Toss a bunch of them in it.OldSkoolNJ":wbqm5ync said:If the smell is in the guitar case.. leave the guitar out of the case and throw scented fabric softner in the case and leave it closed for a few days...
Citrus peels, vinegar, and charcoal can also absorb odor..
Agreed. The sun definitely helps. Leave the case open outside and febreeze it.locoed":432u6guo said:I used ammonia with a damp cotton cloth, but you have to take the pups out, machines, plates etc and really get in there. Then a little sunlight, not joking!
Should be gone after that. Don't drown it though.
