GFS Pickups ... Garbage?

+1 on that post.. also wanted to add that the rail Lil' killer I tried needed some widening on the pick guard to accomodate the size. That was a pain in the ass. It fit well in my rear routed strat though.

Hopefully their humbucker sizes are more consistent. For $65 a pair, they seem worth a shot ... unless of course someone in the classifieds replies to my post.

I bought a 15$ loaded pickguard from China off eBay once... the pickups looked idenditical to a cheaper GFS I got recently. So GFS probably just buys a load of cheap Chinese pickups, rebrand them and make a profit.

I use the Fatbody in the neck of my Tele and it was exactly what I was looking for. Everyone knows how sucky Tele neck pups can sound and the price is right.

What boost said a few posts up. I like the
Low-medium power from them. The "hot rails"
Clone I got was kinda muddy. The strat pups and paf's are
rocking

I like them. I have a least 5 sets on different guitars. The like the crunchy pat & veh, the best. I should look into those you're looking at.

This. I have the VEH in my Cu24 PRS SE and much prefer that pup over the stock one and the Screamin' Demon I previously had in it.

I have the Crunchy PAT in my Agile AL-2000, and in terms of tone it is much more classic LP sounding than my stock PRS SE 245 . . .

Had a guitar that came with the Power Rails, a little too high output for me, but didn't sound too bad with a cranked Peavey XXX.

All in all, they aren't bad pickups. I believe they are manufactured by the same company that manufactures PRS SE pickups.

If you have an entry or mid level guitar, give them a shot. I don't think I'd put these kinds of pickups in a top shelf kind of guitar, but for the budget minded? Why not?

They're going in my Edwards, or would be anyway. My other options are to change pots/wiring or have MJ at Seymour Duncan make me a custom p90 sized bucker that she insists will give me the same output of the full sized counterpart. That would cost $175.

One thing to keep in mind - even though they can wind up the output of the pickup, it's still going to have a narrower magnetic field than a full size humbucker just due to the size and will affect the overall tone.

Ahhh ... and this is probably why I am not loving the DiMarzio's p90 sized buckers currently in the guitar. Even though the output rates at just about even with the full size Distortion, it's not going to generate the same amount of punch then?

I had a client give me an ESP M1 Standard to take the stock EMGs out and drop in some VEHs. He loves them. He put Crunch rails in an LTD he got, and couldn't be happier. They are pretty hot, and sound great for the price. They're just cheap pickups.

I think they are a fine "upgrade" for a Squier or some other budget guitar with stock branded pickups, but I really don't think they are that good of a bargain when you can find used Duncan's or Dimarzio's for the same price or a few dollars more. While I don't think these pickups are bad, I think people get blinded by the fact that they are cheap and that clouds their judgement a little and makes them think that they are the greatest thing ever. That being said, it goes the same way for people with their boutique gear.

I had a set of noiseless singles in a Strat. They were awful. I replaced them with Dimarzios, and they're far better; definitely worth the price difference. My new Strat has Dimarzios too.

I ended up scoring a 36th Anniversary Duncan JB/Jazz set for $100 shipped on mylespaul.com! Still in the box!
