I've been playing Elixir's pretty much since they came out. I have 4 guitars and have to change strings every 2-3 months now instead of every month. I had to get used to them but once I did it was worth it. They don't fade and die like other strings and as long as you change them when you see a decent amount of the coating start to shred you will not break a string. They are the best strings for me. :D

My dad loves elixirs as he doesn't get to play much but after playing his Tele for a week straight loaded with them I still couldn't get into them.

That's just me though.

Glad you're digging them

I just do not like coated strings!! Never have and never will both for electric and acoustic.

Aurora strings sound better and last longer than any other I've tried. Played D'Addario EXL-120s for most of my life.

Never heard of them. Don't like the colored idea but I'm assuming that the Silver is closest to a normal string.

I avoid GHS like the plague. I haven't used GHS for years due to breaking them at an ungodly rate. Likely from being a caveman hack, but I've found more reliable/quality strings. I tend to shift between the three string packs below. D'Addario being my #1, but the Jim Dunlop strings really surprised me. Just a really nice feel to them. And the new EB Cobalt's are solid too.

Oh, and I used to swear by DR strings, but I quit using them because QC was something else in my experience.

Dunlops are cool but they never floored me. I avoid EB like the plague. The only string brand I'd ever break time and time again.

  Funny how a certain set of strings serve a player and others not so much!

When I was playing seven string a lot last year and early into this year, I had great luck w/ Ernie's seven strings sets. Can remember ever breaking a string.

Best of luck in your search for something new that strikes your fancy!

Thanks

I break GHS and EB faster than I can put them on. Longtime D'Addario user.

Interesting to note that certain people have problem with certain brands. If any one company sucked that much they would've been out of business years ago.

I've been using GHS Boomers 10-46 for years now with out an issue.

DR Pure Blues - best reasonably priced sings
Pyramid Round cores - best boutique sting although expensive, they do last though.

I used Boomers from the mid-80's up until the late 90's and liked them better than anything else available during that time. When I first tried DR Tite-Fits, it was all over...still my favorite string, along with DR Pure Blues for Strats/Teles/bright guitars.

I've never been a fan of coated strings but the new Elixir Nanowebs have changed that...they're awesome.

I've used D'Addarios for decades. Bought a pair of 10-packs a few months ago, and will look to switch because of how they are packaging the strings now. They wind two together, and it's a PITA to pull them apart!

The Boomers I used to use in the early 80's each came separate, in a nice paper sleeve, do they still do that?

They still package boomers and EB like that. Best to my knowledge on the latter.

I ordered some DR as they're safe for me and I'm trying out some Rotosound Roto Yellows

Been playing boomers for 30 years. Never had a reason to switch. I buy boxes because it's more convenient and cheaper. Never had a problem with breakage unless something was wrong with the guitar.

Elixir's FTMFW

I used D'adarrio's and/or Boomers forever, but got tired of changing strings. Elixir's sound and feel great....plus they last forever. Never going back to another brand.

I tried Boomers once. I took them off within 10 minutes. Sounded thin and weak. That was probably 30+ years ago (!) so I should probably open my mind and try them again. I settled on D'Addario years ago.
