GHS Boomers: WTF

My issue with coated strings is, the wound srings are coated, but the plain strings are just plain strings. They tend to wear out, break, corrode, and you have lovely wound strings, and bad plain strings. So you have to replace the whole set.

GHS strings always sound and feel terribly wrong to me.

I use D'addario 90% of the time. EB if I must. DR is good too.

I got nothing on some of the other guys in the forum, but I've used Boomers almost exclusively for 10 years and never had that problem, or any other issues. I don't know if I've ever broken a string. Tried DM Blue Steel, DR, D'Addario, and Elixir, and ended up settling on Boomers as they seem to last longer for me and sound "crisper." After finding the Ultex Jazz III/Boomers combination, I've been totally content and stopped the pick/string chase. Haven't tried Dunlops or EB's, but will be giving the Dunlops a go soon because I got a free pack in an ebay deal, and will let you know what I think! Can't stand the slippery feel of coated strings personally. Cheers,

Bigrig

Sound or feel isn't the particular problem here for me.

What it was/is for me is that I opened a pack (after opening my mind) to find a fucked up string that sent everything out of whack. QC in this instance is what I was talking about. Can't believe that out of x amount of times I've restrung guitars that I have never encountered that before.

I tried the GHS Rockers and well, they rocked. But given what happened (two other bad tonal instances) I'm not trying GHS again.

Waiting on the Rotos now. Anybody here try those?

Wait...where did you hear that?

That's odd. I don't have any corrosion or breakage issues with my Nanoweb Elixir plain strings. All this coming from a guy that could "funk" up a set of plain steels very quickly. The downside is that I had to give up the copper picks with the coated strings. :(

Don't know for a fact, but I'm pretty sure the non wound strings are coated as well.

Been using Boomers since 1976 or 78? can't remember, any how, never had any issues!
