So Gibson's using ebony fretboard on their new 20th anniversary Les Paul Custom RI. Wondering if the ebony is coming back to production now that the 1-piece rosewood boards are being used? Rumors? Information?

Ebony ? Sure if u wanna pay 10K for a LP. Otherwise ur prolly gonna get Richlite or some other flavor of the month ...

As far as Rosewood i have no idea what they're using.

Last i heard about 4 months ago they were getting some RW variety from central america.

I have no idea where the new 1-piece rosewood materials come from. It would be nice to get ebony fretboards back to the regular LP Customs!

from what I understand is even though richlite was being used on CS Customs ebony was still being used on RI's. I'm not a fan of richlite as an ebony replacement which is why I bought a used 2008 ebony 57 RI Black Beauty LP Custom back in March.

They were using 2 piece rosewood, laminate one on top of each other in 2012, not sure if they stopped doing that or not

Didn't know that the RIs still had ebony boards. :)
