I'm looking to replace the bridge Custombucker in my R0. I'm looking for something with a similar tone but not quite as bright and slightly hotter. I also like the bottom to be tight. Any suggestions?
I replaced the Custombuckers in my R7 with 36th Anniversaries. Im very happy with them. I took a ride on the pickup merry-go-round for a while. Tried some very expensive Boutique winds, some different Duncans and Dimarzios, and eventually settled on the 36ths. They are a really great set that wont break the bank

They have more output, and are are much better balanced than my Custombuckers were. With my Custombuckers, I was always finding the neck overpowering the bridge. Despite height and polepiece adjustments, I could never get that perfect balance. The 36th bridge is a little hotter than the neck and has a tad more mids and bass. At first I only had the neck 36th so I tried it in the bridge position, for kicks. It was really sweet in there, so I figured the dedicated bridge model would be even better, and it was.
Also my Custombucker bridge was just a bit to twangy for the style I play. I wanted more beef and tightness. The 36ths really clean up well too with the volume knobs. And I get great middle position tones too, which was tougher with the stock pups due to the balance thing.
Im not knocking the Custombuckers. I think they are fantastic stock Gibson pups. But I needed something a little more hard rock oriented, but without sacrificing the vintage PAF nature. It sometimes takes a while to match pups to a specific guitar.
