So I snagged a slash 3.0 bridge to try since i was intrigued by the A5 magnet. My all time favorite pickup has been the lowly 498t for years. Compared to the slash 2.0 version I've had in a LP for years, the bottom end is a good bit tighter. It still sounds hotter than the 9-10k output suggests like the 2.0 does. More saturation than the 498t, less grind and less mid spike. But compared to the 2.0 it's very similar. Still has that slash squish to the tone, with a tighter bottom end, maybe slightly more mids. Nice tight rock pickup. Does Angus well. Pretty cool if you like A5 pickups.

My favorite is a custom 5 so this is interesting…. Thanks for the info!

Is it tighter than the 498t, and is it bright? This was interesting when it came out as it looked like it sits in that vintage-hot/medium output realm with an A5 magnet. I've been looking into something like that for a potential future LP.

I imagine it being a less hot version of a Suhr Aldrich. I have used that pickup for years and sounds like what you are describing with the low end and mids. Sounds like a great pickup!

I was kinda irked when these came out since I just bought 2.0 not that long ago LOL They've barley been out a little over a year. I am curious about these though, but I'm also happy with all my guitar setups right now so I'll pass for now. Big fan of OG's and 2.0.

the 498t is incredibly under rated, at least in les paul style guitar. just the right amount of output, and very balanced and clear. I was always happy with them in my les paul days.

Yeah I love the 498t. The 3.0 is a bit smoother like the other slash pickups without the 498t mid spike. It has a tighter response and low end like the 498t, but retains squishy slash alnico tone, more sizzly top end, but not harsh. Kind of like the 78. Compared to the custom 5, it's not as hot but has better mids, a hated the scooped mids of the custom 5.

I just dropped the 2.0 and two guitars and I like them a lot and I’m very curious to maybe put the 3.0 in offender HH telly that I have. This is helpful.

They sound killer in a 335 too! Nice bite with the right amount of compression squish and warm alnico tone. Agreed, highly underrated. Sounds smoking through a 4 hole Marshall!!!

I’ve got a set of 2.0 in a squire J5 telecaster, and they’re pretty bright in that Guitar. I’m turning down the trouble on my amp. It’s probably my brightest guitar, but I think it has a lot to do with the bridge, so I think I’m gonna swap that bridge out for something brass to warm it up a little bit.

I have another set of 2.0 in my last Paul And they’re perfect in that Guitar

When you are playing live, that extra mid in the 498T is exactly what you want. Love those pickups. Have both in each of my Axcess guitars and no intention of changing them out.

I never got along with the 498T. Raspy. I love the 500T though.

2.0 is my favorite slightly hot PAF. Will have to try 3.0.

Trying to think what came stock in my USA explorer.. I swapped it out for an aldrich which sounds really good in there. Nice and tight. I had a set of the original Slash pickups, really like them in LP style of guitar. I would honestly just go back to those, no need to pay more for a 2.0 or 3.0 pickup.

Got a bridge model coming. Going to try it out in an LP -- replace the 30th Anniversary 59 bridge pickup to hear the difference. Both pickups have rough case Alnico 5 mags so it should be interesting.

I replaced my 498t with a Planet Tone and have been happy. The previous slash pickups had a weird flat mid squish thing I didnt dig. The 3.0 sounds better to me, though I am not a huge fan of them, as I go for an open, uncompressed sound.

Not a 498t fan. And the 3.0 does sound better than the earlier version, but hot damn do I love me some Planet Tones. I have had a bunch of different models and every one was a winner. Jose is an EXCELLENT maker.

I have installed several PT sets for clients and for myself. Probably around a dozen or so(?) I recently discovered I really, really like the EQ of A4 magnets and designed a set of P90s with them. They sound perfect!

I do like an A4 even though I have used them sparingly personally. I will also shamefully admit for the first time in public that after 40 years of playing I still have never actually owned a P90 lol.

I installed this in my LP earlier today. Ran it through my Friedman Plex.

It is definitely hotter than the 59 -- a hot PAF for sure. The compression in this pickup is unpleasant, the tone from the thinner strings get compressed the most. The low end is definitely tighter than the originals. Don't like the tone. Won't be keeping this one.

Not a massive fan of the 59 bridge but I'll put it back for now.

Anyone want to buy a zebra Slash 3.0
