Just picked up an ES-339 after playing Guild X-500's for 20 years. I'm not a big guy, and it always looked onstage like I was driving a bus. What a great, compact semi-hollow, with a very nice sound. There is a certain fat, round thing which is created by all that wood in an X-500 or L5 or ES 175, which the 339 obviously can't quite capture...but it comes close. I've also been running pretty clean and direct for the last couple decades and bought this rig to enable me to get a bit wetter as far as sound goes without the feedback and stuff you risk with large, vintage solid-top archtops. I'm really psyched for the journey. Great guitar.
