not an expert but the early studio's seem to go for pretty high prices, especially with those pups. didn't they (gibson) put those in everything they made in the early 80's though?

not positive, but i don't think there is a tim shaw model studio, but i really don't know. sorry.

The first signature guitar for Gibson was in 1996.. the Joe Perry signature. I think someone is telling you a story... I think it was in 1980 that Gibson produced the BB King model Lucille? so... I have never heard of the shaw studio, ever.

I think shaw is a reference to the pickups in that model studio
I think the shaw studios have body and fret binding though

ah ok.. sounds reasonable

If it's an '83 the first and fifth number of the serial should be an 8 and a 3. You'd have to pull the pickups to see if they're Shaw's. Some people consider these pickups collectable, some don't. I've had an '85 335 that had them and it sounded good. Slightly preferred them to a 57 classic I tried in it and I like the 57 Classic. I wouldn't pay big money for one unless you're hot to score the pickups and judging by your post you're not.

It does appear to be an 83, the body is alder with a maple neck. These are not bad guitars just totally different if you are wanting that LP tone. The pickups should be shows but would have to pull them to verify, they are good sounding but never been my thing. Hope this helps

You are correct Sir!

thanks guys,much appreciated!
At this point and don't accept the trade

That's a good trade though in your favor. Grynch is like 600 brand new, no? That Studio Custom can go for up to around 1K, sometimes more if you find the right buyer. Depends on condition but it looks really good.

No brainer. I couldn't get there fast enough for a first year Custom in very rare Alpine White or maybe it's Pearl White

Got you

Not sure exactly what a Grynch is, but if it's something new, at $600, and you're offered a Gibson Les Paul studio from the 80s, I'd take that trade in a second (assuming the guitar plays nice).

Those white Studios are sweet.

Ok, I just looked up the Grynch. . . Hetfield ESP thingy. Now, I would DEFINITELY trade for the Les Paul. The Gibson is going to climb in value over the years (more so than an ESP with green flames on it.
