Not sure exactly what a Grynch is, but if it's something new, at $600, and you're offered a Gibson Les Paul studio from the 80s, I'd take that trade in a second (assuming the guitar plays nice).

Those white Studios are sweet.

Ok, I just looked up the Grynch. . . Hetfield ESP thingy. Now, I would DEFINITELY trade for the Les Paul. The Gibson is going to climb in value over the years (more so than an ESP with green flames on it.

As ugly as I think it is, you just never know what becomes collectable when it was limited release. I personally am in it to play guitars I want to play and don't care about possible "investments" that may or may not pan out.

I used to have an '83 just like this, but with different pickups. I do know the shaws are highly sought after though. Mine probably came with them originally but someone swapped them out at some point. It was a cool guitar, but I personally couldn't bond with the alder body. None of the pickups I tried in it sounded good, even ones straight out of a GREAT sounding les paul standard.

I have an Alder, 80's V and it's just a killer sounding guitar. Have some Wolfetone Marshallhead's in it and it's a classic/hard rock beast.

Not sure you're right. I doubt an alder body Studio is going to be THE collectible Gibson. On the other side the Grynch is a special edition, which - if sold in the right moment - might result in significant gain.
