I would say its worth 1400 to 1500 , if u start changing more stuff on it then even less. 90 is a good year though and many dig the white customs.

Did you lift the pick ups or give it a cavity check for some Gibson markings or a date?

I think you should keep it, buyers start thinking fake/copy when there is no serial #, I am already starting to question the inlay on the headstock and I am not even buying it! Keep it, rock it, make it your own,,,kinda looks like thats what you are doing.

But, my 79 Silverburst has a date under the pan as well, if you were so inclined to look under it. Back then, the serial numbers were stamped into the back of the headstock. Hard to believe they completely got sanded away. Maybe do the CIA trick and lay a piece of wax paper over the top and use the side of a pencil lead to see if anything appears.
If it is a player that you like though, it would be best to hang onto it. Those were good years for Gibsons.

Steve, I thought 79 Customs were maple necks and some with volutes? Is your burst maple?
this one is all mahogany. I will look under the plate when I'll put EMGs in it.

I'd say since you got Gibson to verify it, send it out to them and see if they'll restamp it or give you a Letter of Authenticity. It would only benefit you.

It was bad deal. I am about $1700 in it right now. I will put EMGs in it, put custom serial number with clear coat (that'll bring it up to $2K, but I was told that a pair the T Tops in it right now may go for close to $300 though), may be some other cool modification. I actaully got it as a BD present to myself, I guess it will become my "heirloom" guitar now.
It is exellent guitar and I not relly worry about it. I would not sell, just to buy a serialed Lester for another $2K. I am pretty sure playabily/quality/sound wise this guitar will beat any other Customs at this price range.
Another good thing is that I am not bound by those -"Don't modify it, it'll ruin value" thoughts now. So I am free to do whatever and make it the best damn Les Paul for the money, without a fear of it living me...ever
