I was able to confirm it's legit; submitted my offer, and seller accepted.

DiMarzio Super 2 in the neck; Super Distortion in the bridge. Emerson Wiring. 2023 Standard with AAA top.

edit: grover locking tuners.

Now, I gotta find a guitar to sell.

completely out of the blue. I haven't had any interest in Gibsons or Les Paul style guitars for decades.

A Gibson mod shop short popped up in my YT feed, after watching it I went to the Mod collection and demo shop and looked around, then at listings, and found very few clown bursts - most were too dark, too yellow or too faded, this one immediately gave me the Kiss / Ace vibe, not into fancy tops, this is subdued compared to some, but better than the plain tops IMO, but between the DiMarzio's and the bright red. and the locking tuners, I couldn't resist.

Got it at a good price; and I actually like the mods which is rare. Checked all the boxes. I haven't owned a Gibson LP since I was a kid, when I bought a new 1978 Gibson Les Paul Custom in 1978 at Brian Guitars, New Haven, CT...and sold it around 1985 or so.

A Les Paul makes a dang good guitar unless you already gotcha a good 335.:LOL:

Just kidding....but for real if I wasn't a 335 player I probably would be reaching for a good LP.

Surprised you don't already have one considering your fine collection but it looks like you are about to round it out nicely!

there's a such thing as a clown burst ?? it looks like my cherry burst but brighter in the orange ...
I've heard it described as a burst finish with an overly abrupt transition from the light inner portion to the darker outer part. I think it looks great tbh.

friggin sweet !!

yes, the red is a brighter, lighter shade and has a more abrupt change to light yellow in the center compared to today's heritage cherry sunburst which is darker red, with a more gradual orange/amber transition to the center yellow.

the brighter cherry burst, aka clown burst, was common for '70s norlin-era bursts....unfortunately, most fade over time...that's what the modern faded/washed cherry sunburst tries to capture.

I'll have to keep this one out of the sun, and do what I can to keep the red from fading over time - if that's possible? It's close enough for me...most I found were darker than this....it's tougher to find than I expected; I think I'd have to find a vintage norlin-era or order a M2M with a true clownburst finish to get one.

There was an Edwards for sale that was very similar to that for sale a couple years ago when I had started LP shopping. Unfortunately my $ did not roll in in time before it was sold. SWEET.
...and a custom which is even rarer in that finish vs Standard.

edit: Gibson 335 cost a lot more it seems....maybe reconsider LP?

I found a ew Deluxe and Studios with something close to clown burst

Fudge ..... I want a white guitar .....that thing is sick
Maybe I need to trade you my white Edwards E-SA168 for a reverb tank and a couple Waynzo pedals.....It'd leave me down to one guitar though then I'd be stuck borrowing the wife's thinline tele in an emergency situation.😬

I'm still on the hunt for a Semi hollow .... that one @rsm posted is friggin perfect ..... I have a feeling it's at least 5000 though
When you got the dough I'd recommend putting hands on them first. I tried out some 4-5k semis when I was shopping last october and they were dogs compared to the 335 I brought home for half the money.

Yep, there are deals to be had. If you liked the look of that white 335, I might suggest an older ES-347. They haven't made them since '91 or so, but you can find them in great condition for $3k-$3.5k. Some of the earlier ones were made in Kalamazoo, too. They're like a 335 with the big block inlays and a bound headstock.
