So the numbnuts wants to move away from building guitars. The scuttle-butt from the trade magazines and a few shop owners I know (former Gibson dealers) is that the President of Gibson wants to move into the electronic side of the industry. Software, recording gear, head phone, mics, etc....

I'd call complete BS...but given the obvious drop in quality that many people have seen on new production models.... it makes me at least entertain the idea that the dbag might actually do it.

Anyone hear any rumblings about this, or should I grab my tinfoil hat ??

Whatever other products they make in the future, they still won't stay in tune.

I'm not a Gibson fan or a fan of President J, but there are probably some upsides for Gibson. Electronic stuff can be manufactured for cheap overseas, and the Gibson name still has prestige in the market. I imagine there is a fair number of people out there who will line up for headphones, mics and a whole host of other items with the Gibson logo, a chicken scratch signature, and a hologram on it.

1. China
2. Gibsun/Chibsun logo
3. Mention of some vintage specs they dug up from Les Paul's long lost, now found notebook
4.....
5. Profit

Screw Gibson. Their quality has been on the downfall for quite a few years, yet the price increases every year, it seems.

True, But the 2013 and maybe the 2015 Historics will go down as great years.

That may be, I was never into the Hysterics. The CC line is a bunch of shit. There's one released every week, it seems.

And even the CC are becoming a joke, for that kind of cash. Leaving, and clear coating over obvious pencil lines outlining the 'buckle rash' areas for the faux aging, not to mention the razor blade checking looks like a joke.

Imagine you spend, what, $7-10K on a Les Paul, and you get this shit

If this is the crap they're peddling for that kind of dough, they should get away from manufacturing guitars.

I meant 2014. These are really nice. My 2013 is one of the best Pauls I have played.

Holy crap, Thats waaaayyyyy worse than the gap around the trem cover I complained about on my $3k Wolfgang...I would shit in my pants if I bought that and it came in like that

Well Gibson, the electronic market is and has been full for decades before they wanted to dive into it. Frankly, the electronic market doesn't need Gibson unless Gibson will do what they have done to their guitars. You know, figure how to to cut corners as much as possible while raising the price.

Just goes to show me that rock really is dead and Gibson will follow any trend they can.

Honestly, the best thing Gibson can do is move away from guitars so they can at least save their rep & history. The way they're going, they're only tarnishing their illustrious history with instruments that are relying more on their name/history than their quality & craftsmanship.

Gibson and Technology hmmmmmm

Original Robot guitar: "Strike one"
Firebird X: "Strike two"
Minetune/G-Force: "Strike three"

I can't see why they wouldn't do both, moving more into electronics while keeping the guitars going.

A world without new Les Pauls wouldn't be fun!

Can't see that happening. Not getting out of guitars anyways. I can see them branching out in other areas though.

Not surprised to hear that about Gibson. Craig Anderton ruined Harmony Central, and then went to Gibson. Now Gibson is ruined. Coincidence? :)

As said above, the BEST thing Gibson can do is stop making guitars.
