I think any builder will do a double cream for you. You just have to ask for "aged white" or some BS euphemism and they'll also send it with a plastic cover on it. I've had at least three builders make them for me and one of them was a very big name already mentioned here.
I'm the opposite - i love the look of the double creams but dimarzios sound like shit
The brand doesn't have some universal sound. There are a number of them that sound great, just like Duncan has a number of good ones, etc. I have at least a half-dozen pu manufacturers pickups in my various guitar. They all sound good matched with those guitars and those amps......and my playing, I suppose. (Should I mention tonewoods here just to stir the pot a bit!)
The same way Chrysler can trademark Hemi Orange, and Fender can trademark Lake Placid Blue. Coca Cola has a trademark on their bottle shape, and McDonalds has a trademark on the big yellow M.
"Registration for the Mark for use
with electric guitar sound pickups with “the distinctive shade of cream” claimed as a feature of the mark. As a musician, Petitioner owns and regularly purchases electric guitars and guitar parts, including pickups. Petitioner has a particular aesthetic for his
guitars which necessitates that certain of his electric guitar pickups consist of only the color
cream so that the pickups will not standout, or otherwise visually distract, from the rest of his
guitar components. Thus, the color cream is essential to the use or purpose of the pickups".

Seems a little drastic. In that situation what pickups am I suppose to use to make my tan pants flap?If Dimarzio and Gibson pickups evaporated off the face of the earth, I would feel basically no impact.
Something more booteekSeems a little drastic. In that situation what pickups am I suppose to use to make my tan pants flap?
Duncan will only sell it to you with a cover on it, and then only from the custom shop.
That's racist
Gibson currently sells cream 57 Classics and Dirty Fingers as Classic Double White.Gibson could just call theirs Double Cream Pie and be done with all of the madness.
I heard they stopped doing that years agoDuncan will only sell it to you with a cover on it, and then only from the custom shop.
Common colors should not be trademarked. Bobbin only came in 2 colors and it wasn’t unique to DiMarzio. It’s like trademarking silver colored screwsLike a mother that eats its young.
Larry will win that suit its settled Law.
