Gibson VOS SG or VOS Les Paul?

my understanding is the 57's have some of the beefier necks. I want a 3 pu black beauty lpc version.

I never really bonded with my old VOS SG Maestro. But I love my old SG's from the seventies.

The R7, R8, and R9 all have the same neck shape, except they get slightly smaller (and more desirable) as the years progress. The differences are small but definitely noticeable. That said, I find them all to be pretty comfy. The R7 is the Gold Top, the R8 is the Plain Top, and the R9 is the Flame Top. The best buy, in my opinion, is the R7 because it is the EXACT same guitar as the R8s and R9s, except they're typically on the heavier side, have the already mentioned fatter neck and are usually cheaper. I think all of the newer ones have Burstbucker 1s & 2s which aren't as hot as the 2 & 3 combo. The R9 is GROSSLY overpriced. I certainly wouldn't mind owning one, but I'd rather get good deals on an R7 and an R8 and have two of those for the price of one R9.

Edit: Also keep in mind that the 2012s have the 2-ply laminated fretboard. Dunno if that matters to anybody, but I wouldn't want one.

While I dont have much to say on the whole SG vs LP thing, I can say that my R7 VOS was one of the best purchases I've ever made. It's uncomfortable for me to play (huge neck and I'm a strat guy), but the thing has tone for days. Great fretwork that allowed me to get 1/32'' action, perfectly cut nut, stays in tune even with extreme bending and is actually balanced unlike so many Les Pauls out there. Killer guitar all around.

I own the R7 and 3 of the R9, and also played the R8 a bunch of times. the R7 is the thickest neck but is pretty close to the R8 neck and some of the R8 i played had necks just as thick and felt pretty much the same, they wasnt much different depending on the year. The R9 neck isnt as thick as the R7/8 necks and also has less shoulders. Most of the time the R9 doesnt weigh as much either, but sometimes theres a few R7 that are light, my current R7 weighs 8.5 lbs and is just as light as most R9.

The R0 has a thinner neck and the jimmy page models have the thinnest necks i have played on a lester. I had a jimmy page vos number 2 and it had my favorite neck.
