Gibson won't answer a custom quote - ESP Eclipse opinions?

So, I bought a new Gibson LP Custom couple of months ago but it had some problems/faults and I got another new LP Custom as a replacement. Turns out that it also had some problems so we sent Gibson a price quote of a LP Custom (w. black hardware, no pickguard and with uncovered pickups) but Gibson hasn't answered it yet, although the quote was sent almost 1½ months ago. Since this deal ain't moving anywhere, I started to look into full thickness ESP Eclipses. ESP's price for a similar Eclipse as in the pic below but with SD passives would be under 1800€ whereas a regular LP Custom costs a bit under 3000€. Anyone played these?

You have kicked around the idea for years Jaakko of owning an LPC, I would just put that money aside and keep looking and get some feelers out. There are 1000s of black LPCs out there for sale, you just have to wait for the right one.

I do not think the ESP will kill your gas imo.

I am sorry but Gibson QC sucks now. I just recently ordered a custom full thickness Eclipse. ESP QC is top notch.

+1 I have been looking for the right single cut type guitar for me, and I don't think the ones available will keep me from wanting the right Les Paul. I just hate trying to find the right Les Paul... I can knock off more than half of other single cuts simply because of the scale length. So, I continue the search...

Fully agree with this.

The Eclipse is an awesome guitar and those things play but it won't kill your gas for a LP. I recommend continuing the search, it'll be worth it

Get the ESP. I've heard that they don't use baked maple fingerboards.

the eclipse is nice but i like my les pauls better, i have a full thickness eclipse and the regular thickness eclipse and neither of them sound or feel like my les pauls.
i personally wouldn't order a custom eclipse from esp either, theres been quite a few cases of esp messing up custom orders in the usa,I'm friends with a former esp dealer and he was very specific on how he wanted his personal esp custom shop guitars and they screwed up his orders, he had the proper order forms for the usa and even used to go to esp headquarters in cali, he also ordered a coupe for some of his customers and they came with the wrong specs, i know of another dealer that ordered a mini batch of esp guitars and they messed up his order too, theres been plenty of other cases of this type stuff with them on the esp message board over the years. esp prices aren't cheap either and when paying the prices they charge i feel you are entitled to get what you ordered, some people have placed orders and been told a 6 to 8 month wait and then have to wait over a year.

My Eclipse has a Ebony fretboard. I would def recommend the ESP. But if you are deadset on a Les Paul, then only a Les Paul is going to satisfy.

I have been thinking about getting a black Gibson LP for a long time, but as it stands, I'd rather go to Amfisound (pricey) or Ruokangas (even pricier) – to support local luthiers and to be sure I get better quality than what Gibson dares to dump here.

Lots of other companies make decent single-cut guitars, but if you really won't accept anything else than a "real" Gibson LP, good luck... ;)

just find a nice les paul from late 90's to early 2000's used. The quality control was still good and the ebony and mahogany were still tops, not the crap they are gluing together these days with 3 pc bodies and "richlite" boards. U can have the used lp dressed up however u want it and still have a grand leftover or more , plus the resale will always be there this way. If u buy new esp custom shop you will loose a boatload on the resale if ever had to sell.

I have played plenty of nice les pauls in the last 2 years and the quality was just fine, they was custom shop guitars but i didnt see the issues in the custom shop that i have seen with the regular non custom shop stuff, i have a couple slash and a pearly gates that are excellent, i sold a jimmy page number 2 that was great, i have a 50th anni R9 that is awsome too, i know a good guitar with defects and issues from a bad one and im very picky when it comes to my les pauls and i wont justify the price of it if it has issues.

I owned a couple explorers and they wasnt from the custom shop and they had rough fret edges, overspray on the headstock and edge of the fretboard. I ended up gettig rid of them.

I also head of a couple buckethead guitars that had some issues but theres still plenty of others that didnt, i feel bad for the people who have bought or played guitars with issues because it sure leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Its always best to play before you buy but i know that always isnt possible.

It sucks to see people complaining about gibson because i think they would feel a little bit differently if they played my les pauls.

Same here. If a guitar costs a bit under 3000€ (~$4000) it must not have any issues, IMO.
