having all of their rosewood confiscated requires drastic measures, kinda feel sorry for them. if they werent trying to abuse the sources they pull from and the amounts they pull they wouldnt have to experiement in chocolate maple styles like that of the likes of Tom Anderson.

kinda feel sorry for the ones who will start to think maple and rosewood will look the same or might get them confused on similar older models :scared:

the new Classic Plus really sounds and looks like a cool idea, but ruined it with the maple neck...very sad

yeh i agree, rosewood has nothing in common with all maple at all.

imagine all of the semi-chambering + a maple/maple set neck guitar tonally - i mean nothing in that screams balanced tonally to me. Im sure les paul would be rolling over in his grave if he saw this.

they would be better off going maple/ebony to be honest, but i think they even had their ebony stock swiped as well a year or so ago, or was it recently? hell i cant keep up

they are using something they are calling richlite on all guitars that used to have ebony boards now. Richlite is a made of recycled cardboard and a resin mix. It really sucks that gibson has no rosewood or ebony yet low end bc rich korean guitars, edwards, and even epiphones still are available with the traditional materials. I guess we have our government along with gibsons cost saving measures to thank. I have an early 90's classic plus and love it, it wouldn't be the same with a maple board besides the fact that they look terrible.

It pains me to think that theres thousands of Rosewood trees being killed every year, only to pump out thousands and thousands of GARBAGE asian made knockoff guitars, and Gibson can get a friggin' piece of Rosewood for a Les Paul.

I dont mind maple fretboards on les pauls, its kinda nice actually.

This is what I was thinking. Those maple boards don't look too bad...

I would have to play and hear the beast in person before passing judgement on the virtue of the guitar. It is not a traditional LP.

Not that there aren't plenty of used LP's out there.

Strange situation. The power of politics. A major company exploits the environment and gets punished. Some tree bugger has major wood over all this.

I dont mind them using maple, I just wish they would have used a natural maple,,wait,,what about the maple trees???
side note, Heritage, the chick in your avatar needs me!

They are calling it "baked maple". I played one at GC last Monday and it felt and sounded ok, but I didn't compare it to one of the older ones with rosewood. In person it looks like the dryest cheapest piece of rosewood you have ever seen.

I like the price point and the colors. Would love to get my hands on one of those trans black ones......

i've got a jr/hb guitar center guitar with the maple board. It ads a little snap when played clean, sounds good in single coil mode too.

Umm.....try as I might to like these new offerings, I find myself having to give them a collective grade of.....

Gibson didn't exploit the environment in any way, shape, or form. Nor did the action taken against them stem from anything having to do with the environment or endangered species of wood. It was over another country's labor laws.

I have a 2009 LP Studio Raw Power w/maple fret board and it owns!!

Does anyone actually READ the specs? The "maple" neck is the same baked/roasted maple neck that everyone RAVES about on the John Suhr guitars. So what's the difference? If it plays and sounds good I say go for it. I'm looking at picking one up soon--just have to comparison shop...

the people ordering Suhr guitars optionally choose roasted maple for asthetics only - they know the importance of a balanced tonal guitar. Gibson is trying to pass it off as an answer to no stocks of rosewood or ebony since they screwed themselves to a wall. Heres a sentence mentioning gibson quality - thrown in for good measure

if you like it go for it. why bother roasting the neck at all and save a few hundred dollars.
