I don't know about you guys but as far as I'm concerned baked Maple sounds delicious!

I agree Lance, the Custom Classic is a pretty cool guitar regardless of what fingerboard wood it has.

And some of you.....*cough cough digijams*  usually gave rosewood a bad rap anyway. So isn't using a maple board a good thing for some of you.

But yes, I'll agree that Gibson is probably keeping their fingers crossed that some buy these without knowing it's a maple board.

I love Maple fingerboards but not on an LP. My reasoning for this is I pretty much think LPs suck.

:D

But seriously, I love how they sound but just never got used to how they feel.

This thread is hilarious.

Since they are changing the fretboards can we get a proper fucking shaved heal and cut-a-ways to make them more friendly to play?????

Like trying to tokyo drift a 1969 Fury III................................playing those things.

In my HUMBLEST of opines, I've always gravitated towards the rich, thick, syrupy sound of a Lester. A lot of this has to do with its humbuckers, and its tonewoods used in their construction. Rosewood and Lester go hand-in-hand, albeit I have a couple with ebony fingerboards - of which I've swapped the pups to a slightly darker more growling set up (BKP Emeralds and Black Dogs). Maple is twangy to me, correct me if I am out to lunch, but this is how I feel. Teles, strats, and twangers ought to be maple equipped. To have a Lester equipped with maple is, to me, weird. I've yet to hear one of these in person, but my take on it is that Gibson has suffered a couple financially debilitating seizures of its rosewood stock, and is now hedging its bets on using maple instead. This isn't a product of evolution, it's a product of convenience and moving business forward. On that note, I can't see how a guitar who's history of 60 odd years would suddenly benefit from a fingerboard wood that's been around equally as long, and used primarily in its main competitor's products (ie: the Les Paul of the 50's versus the Broadcaster/Telecaster of the 50's - it's not as though Gibson didn't think to use maple, they chose not to use if for reasons they felt were justified at that time, and its sucessful lineage henceforth proves going with RW was a good choice).

2 cents.
