Goin' for the monster mod!!!

We just shot out my different cabs, speakers and mods. I have an Orange 4X12 w/V30's and an Uberkab w/V30's & 75's. IMO the Uberkab V30 was consistently the best sound with all 3 Friedman mods, huge and warm (which is what I love about it). Followed by the Orange V30, which was a pretty close but a little more old school classic rock sounding and then the Uber 75's were a little small and brittle.

I played Marshall cabs for decades and switched a few years ago to the Bogners but I've never heard a Marshall with Scumbacks in person. If the Marshall/Scumback combo is more mid forward ala old school greanbacks I may end up liking the Bogner better. From years of playing 80's metal, using JCM800/Marshall Straight w/greanbacks combo, I grew very tired of the sound. I think just like anything you can get worn out on hearing it, kind of like my ex's voice. lol But I am definitely looking forward to A/Bing them.

Sounds great James.

The mids are perhaps a bit raspy for my taste.

From what I heard on previous clip (Angry Hippie mod), the fun happens when you put everything on 10 (well except the master) :rock:

I've been listening to my clip versus the Scumback clip of the HBE with Pete T., to me the first biggest difference is in the Scumback clip the guitar is low cut bigtime mine it's raw with low end, the Scumback clip is roughly mixed. Second it sounds like my clip has less amp overdrive. My settings were approx;

Presence 2.5
Bass 6.5
Mid 5
Treble 6
Master 5
Gain 6

The other thing is I used my Sunburst Paul with the Godwood in the bridge and that pickup is very bitey which makes it cut through a mix but maybe soloed sounds a little intense in the mids.

The reason I'm running through all this on the thread is cuz I'm on the quest for tone and want my sound to be the best it can be. I appreciate everyones input, I am listening and taking it all in.

Well after some time of recording with the new amp I absolutely love the tone. The HBE is the best mod IMO. The BE on the new 77' is chunkier then the BE in my 71' Super Tremolo, maybe it's the 6550's. The 71' sounds more traditional Marshally sounding, the 77's more evil and modded sounding. The string density is unreal, they sound like phone cables. Crazy!. It's great having both. Thanks Dave

p.s. We tried the all knobs on 10 thing, doesn't work IMO, way to harsh. Maybe on an unmodded amp but on these guys it was nasty sounding.

Hey everyone,

Well we love the Kitchen Sink so much in the 77' I just sent my 71' in to get more work done. Great work Dave.

Not sure, I gave it to him and told him to trick it out all the way. It has EL34's and sounds different then the 77' that has 6550's. So even if it has the same mods it should sound pretty different.
