that's awesome advice.

tell me something.. I'll be staying in Anaheim.....I don't want to be too far away from the convention center.....(bus? walking distance? maybe cab but cheap)

where in anaheim should I search for a hotel? is anaheim a big city?

Trying to book a room in Anaheim now is going to be next to impossible.
If you can find anything this late, it's going to be poor quality and over priced.
Do what others have said and get a small rental car.
Stay someplace nice like Newport, Long Beach, Laguna, maybe even Irvine.
The drive in to the convention center and the parking is not bad.
You WILL need a car anyway if you want to do some sightseeing and go to decent restaurants.
Cab fares would be ridiculous.

I found booked a 3 star hotel in Buena Park. it's 7 miles from the covention center.

what's the lowest fare for a small compact car ? (a day)

Cheapest you're going to find something after taxes is going to be between $30.00-$40.00 a day.

I'll get a car then! :)

should I get it a LAX or at Buena Park?

LAX, easy when you get off the plane and easy when you leave.

shit... hehehe that'll be close to $300 in rental, but a boy needs to move :)

Dude, seriously, take up the offer from some of the guys here who said they would show you around when you arrived.
What airport are you flying in to?
Major rental car places are either right at the airport or they run a shuttle bus from the airport to their lot.
If you arrange airfare/hotel/car together on one of the discount travel websites like priceline or similar, you can find better package deals when you book things together, just do a little research on pricing.
LA can be a very nasty town if you end up in the wrong areas.
Let someone who's going to be there give you a little guidance.
Not saying anything negative about your abilities to get around and take care of yourself, just saying it's a different culture and you may need a little sound instruction to stay safe.
NAMM is a blast, wish I were going this year I would gladly help you out.

thank you very much :)

I'm in Dominican Republic and already bought the ticket with American Frequent flyer miles so I can't get the "fly/hotel/car deal.

I've been to the u.s. countless times so It's not really weird for me AT ALL. I haven't been to CA/LA but I think with a GPS I can manage to stay out of trouble.

I will get together with some forumites of course, but everyone has their own schedule and I don't want to trouble anyone. :)

A rental car with GPS will get me to all the right places through the safest routes imo.

thank you for the advice! :D

I didn't know LA was that rough though.... :(

Last time I went, I got it from from an agency just outside LAX. The guy met me at arrival and handed over the car there.
He was the only guy that would rent me a car, seeing as I was only 20 at the time. I got a big ole
TrailBlazer, which was around $800 for the week, but they are plenty of much cheaper alternatives.

I would recommend you get your car at LAX, and for the love of God, get a SatNav with the car. Navigating through LA if you have never been, can be quite the task. And be aware of the car pool lanes...!

You got it!

Yeah LA is rough, but so is every other city in the world if you have no common sense... And I am sure you do, so not to worry.

LOL!!!
I had to do some work in Rancho Dominguez for a couple days a few years ago and I let the parent company book my travel and hotel through their in house service...
They put me in a hotel in Carson.
I make my own arrangements now!

Geeez - he was asking about public transportation in LA fer crying out loud.
The impression I got was of someone from another country who had not been to the US, let alone a major city.
Just trying to help, did not mean to be condescending, sorry.

LA is far from as bad as folks make it out to be. Especially now compared to years back. Yeah, there are areas to stay away from, but that's the same every where.

As for the car...no car in LA you might as well not go. It's essential.
