Hey Gents...My lovely wife and I are expecting our first child/boy on Dec 23rd...

Anyhoot...I think I am gonna move my Splawn rig permanently over to my other guitarists house where we rehearse. I have condensed my recording setup now to a macbook pro/protools mbox pro and moving the smaller desk our bedroom to make way for the nursery...No more mancave for the time being :aww:, but I'm not complaining...Life is good!!

What I would like are suggestions on silent/lower volume recording now that a little guy will be in the house. I still have an active roll in writing with my band, and want something that records very well, but won't burst the pocketbook. I have other fish to fry in that dept.

1. Not happening on the axefx. Wife would kill me.
2. I am leaning towards the Randall RD5H, maybe getting a 1x12 along with it? or just using it direct.
3. Thought of a 5150III 50 watt with a 1x12, but not sure?
4. Two Notes I'm not sold on for the money.
5. Eleven Rack sounds not good to me in clips I have heard.
6. new Pod HD Pro X? Not sure if anything Line6 is worth $700?
7. For the price of the two notes, I would rather have the 5150III or the Engl Ironball(which sounds good to me) but $1K for a lunchbox head seems too much.

Looking for a good practice and recorded tones. Any helpful input is appreciated...

I'd grab a rocktron rockcrusher and neuter the splawn :D

Run a direct line from that loadbox into an interface and use some cab impulses. Redwirez can be had for roughly $120.

Very simple and solves the problem without added complications or gear headaches to upset the wifey.

Congrats on the little one man!

We expect a NBD post near Christmas

Thanks man! I am assuming you mean Rivera? I had a Weber Mass Lite and sold it once I got the newer 2012 Quickrod, and I could use the line Out of that to do the same if I got another. Koch makes one too I believe...the LB120II

Yeah I meant Rivera. But you get the point - why complicate things more if you like what you run? That is what I would do. Also if you get the focusrite (sp?) interface with 8 ins there are also headphone outputs as well as post interface EQ capabilities which will help you taylor the raw output sound a bit more. In reality it would be hard to go wrong this way. Effects, recording, late night jamming, all bases covered without complication and plenty of tuning capabilities.

Get that new mini Fryette.

I don't think that comes out for awhile?

Baby isn't due til Dec. 23rd. I dunno if it will be ready by then, but it may be worth waiting for. I mean a dude could get by for a little while without the perfect situation/amp.

Congrats!!!

When mine arrived I dumped my VH4 and bought an Axe FX. Bad idea IMHO. Hated the AFX and I can get most amps to sound awesome at low volumes if you set the masters right. Turned out our baby would sleep through quite a bit of noise (getting him to sleep turned out to be the real trick).

Anyway, congrats and good luck! They don't stay a baby long (ours is ~19 months now), so soak it in.

Congrats on being a dad. Most incredible thing on the planet!

Congrats on the little one.

If you want a low cost alternative look at a Peavey Vypyr tube 60. I love mine but it is more geared for Metal and I don't have any experience with recording off of it. You can find them used for $250. They sound good at low volumes, with headphones, and can also hold their own as gig back up.

the baron snot watt perhaps or the egnater detroit if that does come out this year

Congratulations!! There is nothing in the whole world better than holding you kid right after he/she is born. I offer up 1 suggestion; As soon as you get home introduce the baby to music, your style and genre. Keep the volume low and gradually bump it up a little. Your kid will absorb it and learn to love music and as he/she gets older will have no trouble sleeping while you play. :D

My kids grew up on metal and thank me for it now that they are older.  It is a lot of fun sharing music with your kid.

Line 6 Pod HD desktop into a laptop for recording and into headphones for silent jamming. Fits underneath the couch for easy grab and go.

Being a Dad can be a really life-changing experience. Don't be surprised if playing guitar doesn't seem very important any more. Priorities change.

Congrats and welcome to the club - my daughter is 2 months old :D Enjoy the life-changing experience!
Reality check: I can't find time to change the strings on my guitar since probably a month lol. So, yeah, things change a bit...
