what effects do this?

I like to get most of the gain from the amp, however the JMP I think the ultimate amp, and I was wondering if effects could get to brutal distortion levels

not the ultra modern high gain - think old school brutal distortion

Just put a nice OD in front set to high level, low gain, and crank the tone control up. You can get a great high gain sound this way, even with the pre gain at about 1:00.

This is not a great representation, as I was using my full driveII, and not my max on. Also my iPhone mic was getting destroyed with the amp on 2, and I haven't played metal in over two years... But it gives you an idea of what it can do with a clean boost and a set of hot pups.

An OD pedal as a boost will make any pushed overdrive tone sound brutal.

I'm running a Maxon OD-9 with the level cranked, gain off, and tone at noon. Also a Boss 7 band graphic eq basically set up like a frown with the level flat. They're going into a '79 JMP and it sounds absolutely monstrous. It sounds great with the OD-9 only, but the 7 band kicks it up to the next level and it actually tightens it up a bit. It's not even that noisy. At band levels I'll just slightly turn the guitar volume back for stops and it's quiet as a mouse. It makes me laugh to think that all of these components were available in '79 and it sounds this fucking heavy. Try it.

My old guitar teacher with his JMP and Boss OD-1.
